Electric start not working 8hp.mtd. snowblower

Look on the unit and find the model number. It usually starts wit 917.
Find it and then go to sears.com and type in the model number.

go ahead and replace the key it might be indented just enough to cause this problem

Clean the carburetor and check the intake manifold to the head for air leaks/bad gaskets.

yes,depending on the part you can still get parts.some parts they obselete but you can still find them.go to your nearest outdoor power equipment dealer they usally will have the part you need or they can tell you where to find it.

if the bolt broke off then you need to get old part of it out before putting in a new bolt.

Carb adjustment. There is usually a HIGH and LOW fuel mixture adjustment on the carb. Sounds like the LOW needs to be adjusted. Do a search on the Internet for a service manual for your particular model/make. Simple job IF you have the manual there for guidance.

In order to start it with an electric cord you must have a feature called an electric starter. If you dont have the electric starter on your machine now, one can be added at a dealership

be careful, if the engine over revs it may just explode. These engines are very picky if over sped and easily blow up.
Your problem may be a broken throttle control rod, have look at that first. If the control rods are fine and in place it could be the fly wheel governor is worn out.
