Factory restore for latitude c400

I have a latitude C400 with windows XP pro. I wish to restore it to the factory setting. Using F11 brings up the advanced startup options but "repair your computer" is not one of them. Anything that I can do?

I wish to restore the whole machine back to when I first had it (I realise this will erase all files and software installed since then. The various forums I have searched suggest F11 or ctrl F11 for this and to choose "repair computer" from the list of options. F11 doesn't help on my machine. F8 brings up the advanced options menu but there is no "repair computer"option. Is there an alternative?

  • kingpr Nov 21, 2008

Yes that's right - except I don't have the install disc. My understanding is that I can use a procedure similar to that mentioned by miginic - except that on my machine F11 doesn't give me a restore option. I was wondering if there was any other way to get to the same option.

what it sounds like to me is that you wish to reformat the drive, wipe all the data clean, and then reinstall from a cd, is that correct? just want to get terminology straight here

Well..that would be a new thing for me. I do not recall any F11 function that will do this. Perhaps he or she has more information on this..

Hello,

If you hit F11 you will get the restore option. Once this runs it will ask you whether you want to restore (which will keep your existing personal files) or format the drive to bring it back to factory settings, just as you received it without your added programs or files. You can cancel at any time before the format takes place, because formatting will erase everything before loading your new operating system. Hope this helps you.......

Blue screen when boots up how do i restore computer to factory settings

Hello:

Start your Latitude and maybe a blue bar will appear at the top of the screen like: www.dell.com. Inmediately you see this, try to press F11 to begin the restore utility. Or simply keep pressing this key just after you switch on the laptop.

I hope this helps. Thanks

Hi There,

For a Dell you'll want a Dell Windows Operating System Disc. XP, or Vista. Turn on the 'puter and insert the disk. Power off. Power back on and as soon as you press the power button begin pressing F12 repeatedly. This will take you to a One Time Boot selection menu. Choose CD/DVD and hit enter. You'll then see "Press any key to boot from CD". Do so immediately and away you go.

C400

Yes, you can use the c600 if you wish.

Correction on myself: There is 1 screw on the bottom left right above the Windows XP OEM Sticker. Remove that, the hard drive slides out.

Hope this helps.
