Im fixing a massey 265 and have replaced the fuel filter. how do you fill the filter with fuel? ive tried pumping the lift pump but doesnt seem to work!
thank for your help. found out the problem wasnt what i was doing it was the filter itself. the gasket slipped over the filter holes and was plugging it up.removed the filter repositioned the gasket and problem solved......beware over napa filters. got that advise from a service mechanicthank for your help. found out the problem wasnt what i was doing it was the filter itself. the gasket slipped over the filter holes and was plugging it up.removed the filter repositioned the gasket and problem solved......beware over napa filters. got that advise from a service mechanic

the sending unit and line pick are incorporated most likely pick up tube blocked or damaged --try to blow air back into tank to see it blocked this is what it looks like https://www.autozone.com/fuel-delivery/fuel-tank-sending-unit/p/dorman-fuel-tank-sending-unit-692-078/218938_0_0?cmpid=PLA:US:EN:AD:NL:1000000:IEN:71700000060520112&gclid=CjwKC
OOhh well I guess you've learned that its allways a good idea to prefill your fuel filter when replacing it , see my tip for priming diesel trucks (works for tractors too) , well sounds as if now you got air bound injectors (air compresses -fuel doesnot ) you will need to loosten (not remove!!!) injector lines at head till they bubble as you crank engine over , sometimes a quick method ive used is to " spray" paint thinner (mineral sprits) into air intake as I crank , engine should sputter and eventually start as injectors take over fuel delivery
this could be a fuel pump problem that needs replacing. you will have to check to see if the fuel pump is working. depending how movable you are you might be able to do the job, it will need tools to check. you can try to see if you hear the fuel pump running while someone tries to start the car while you listen at the fuel tank fill hose(gas cap). if you don`t you can try hitting the fuel tank bottom and see if it starts to work. if so then the pump is bad.
The computer cannot tell if the pump is good or not. A failed pump will not set a trouble code, Here's how to check if it's a bad pump or an electrical wiring issue: Unplug the fuel pump connector at the gas tank. Use a testlight or a voltmeter there, and make sure the testlight or voltmeter is grounded good on a bolt or piece of metal. Then check the fuel pump wire with the testlight probe or with the positive probe of voltmeter on the body harness side of connector, while someone cranks the car. See? You are looking for 12 volts steady current at the fuel pump wire by the tank when car is cranking over. Sometimes hard to get a good ground on tester there with all the dirt and crud, but keep trying till you are sure you either do or do not have power to pump when engine is cranking. If you do find power there, then the pump is bad and needs to be replaced. But if you don't have power there, then the wiring to pump needs to be diagnosed, because something is not turning pump on as it should. The computer is tied into the relay and turns the pump on there. In most cases it is a bad pump, but checking the wire at the pump will tell you for sure.
I ran into the same problem and found the line to the tank was clogged, take your line loose and see if your fuel flows freely if not blow some air from a compressor back up the line and into the tank. Hope this helpls
ive got the same problem in my 87 chevy r10 from what ive read its the fuel pump i tried changing the throttle body, and the fuel injectors and it doesnt seem to be the problem im getting gas to the line but i dont think its enough pressure ill be changing the fuel pump and ill let you know.
im assuming since u say u changed fuel filter that this is acummins diesel. and when u say that made it wirse it makes me suspect a failing/failed lift pump. the lift pump supplies low pressure fuel to your injection pump which creates the pressure for your engine to make hp/torwue sounds like enigine may have been starving for fuel then when filter replaced air in system caused further starvation. replace your lift pump
i dont think so
