Ubuntu 8.04 x64 not connecting

I have Ubuntu x64 8.04 trying to connect PS-1206U Print Server with Epson AL1100 . It works good while I`m using Windows XP but not in Ubuntu. In Ubuntu there is my printer Epson AL1100 in support devices (I add it by myself). If I choose adding new network printer via IPP it shows that printer is available but it`s not printing. Can you help me step by step how I can use the PS-1206U Print Server in Ubuntu or other Linux as you support it

Ubuntu has his own print server. When you click on System/Administration/Print (not sure, because I use the French version :Impression), it opens a window. Then you select Go to the server (again, something similar to that choice), and you can configure the options for the server.

Linksys wireless prnt server

Hi,

Based on your post description, I am assuming that:
1. You can connect to the Internet through your 2241 Neptoia modem;
2. You can access your WRT54G V8 Linksys Wireless router @ 192.168.1.1;
3. Both 1 & 2 above could be done through a wireless connection from your PC.

Connect everything as they are supposed to be wired (printer, Print Server, modem, router etc)

Pls try:
a. Connect the Linksys wireless print server using a lan cable to the Linksys WRT54G Wireless AP/router. (Will tackle the wireless connection a bit later)
b. Reset your print server; &
c. Do a diagnostic print-out.
Instructions for b & c are in page 4 of your manual.

You need to verify that:
i. the Power indicator is contnously green
ii. the Ethernet indicator is contnously green
iii. the USB indicator is contnously green
iv. the Wireless indicator may or may not be contnously green

Pls post back with the generated diagnostic print-out before we can proceed with the other steps.

Additionally, try installing the Epson Stylus Photo RX600 direct to one of the USB ports of your PC. Use the installer/driver CD that came with it. Try using it as a regular printer. This will tell us status of the printer.

Good luck and kind regards.

Can i connect usb port to printer port for network printing

No. The USB port on your cable modem is intended to be used only for connecting a pc to the network. Sorry for the bad news.
For network printing you can use a dedicated print server like Edimax ps-1206u, a great device that make even old printers to get on the network via USB and Ethernet ports it haves

Dear Mr. / Mrs. , I encounter a big problem with my print server edimax ps 1206U .actually i work in a company that in one of our departments we have a HP color laserjet cp 1215 printer and our OS is...

Most of the print servers (1206u as well) do not support bidirectional printing, which actually allows the computer to printer bidirectionally so that printer info (toner status, print status) is sent to the computer.

Open Devices & Printers
Right Click on the CP1215 and go to printer properties
On the Ports tab, remove the tick next to the "enable bidirectional support"

Hi, I connected the printer server GPSU01U to a dlink 524

When you connect the print server to the router, does the lights lit? have you tried to reset the print server (reset button is on the side of the print server). press the reset button for 10 seconds, after 10seconds, while still holding the reset button power cycle the print server (unplug then replug the power cable) then release the reset button. Try to find the print server using the PS admin.

I have an Epson Stylus Photo R220 Printer connected to a linksys print server, but

Well, The first thing you should do is to try to test of the print server is properly connecting to the printer. Check the linksys printserver manual and look for how to print a status sheel from the print server. Once done, get the IP address of the print server. Go to your laptop and navigate to control panel/printer. See if you have the driver installed or download the Vista Drivers from Epson.com/support. During the installation, it will ask you what connection type your computer uses. cancel out of the installation or choose LPT1 as the port. Once done, go back to control panel/printers.Right click the R220 icon and navigate to properties. Select ports after that and add a new port. Select Standard TCP IP port after that. Once done, the wizard will appear. Input the IP address of the printer and finish the wizard. you should be good to go after this.

No Ports available

The default IP in the D-Link router is 192.168.1.x
The default IP in the Edimax is 192.168.2.2

Your 3rd octet (the # after 168) has got to be the same for the two of them to communicate.
So, you can either reIP your router, or connect your PC to the print server and change it. The software for the print server should have a tool for finding the PS by MAC address, then you can go in and reset it to 192.168.1.x

Edimax PS1206 UWG and AVG firewall

Your linksys wireless router has a built in firewall into it.  You should enable that firewall and deactivate the AVG.  Your computer will run faster as well.
