When I plug my headset into the computer, the computer does not notify me of new hardware being detected, but I can play games and hear prefect sound quality but I can't use the microphone. I have tried testing the microphone many times but it will not work. The steps that I have tried to do to fix the problem was from this very website "Try going to Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices Click on Voice Tab and make sure the proper device is selected. Click on Volume and make sure levels are appropriate. Lastly, click on Test Hardware and wait until you can speak into the mic to see the voice levels. If you can see the voice levels, then your mic probably works and it is just an issue of configing the COD settings.
SOURCE: microphone not working
I think it's an issue with the headset. I have the same headset, all of a sudden one day the mic stopped working. No amount of tweaking the settings or changing the driver worked. I'm going to take it apart and check the wires, other headsets work fine. Time to invest in Logitech peripherals.

IM600 Compatibility: iPod mini; iPod classic 3G, 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G; iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G; iPod touch 1G, 2G; auxiliary input connects to any CD, DVD, or MP3 player using a stereo mini-plug. If you have a mini-plug port on the IPhone which I believe you have; then attach a male to male plug in between the two devices. Take to Radio Shack for correct line plug.
