Freezing My DVD player will play some movies with no problems, but on some movies it will temporarily freeze on a frame and then continue to play. It will often freeze on some DVDs every few minutes and sometimes when it freezes and starts again it will skip ahead in the movie. It even does this on brand new movies with no scratches. It also doesn't seem to freeze in the same spots in the movie.

I can't eject a dvd from a JVC player because movie I was watching kept freezing.

Unplug player from wall receptical, and detach any other leads that plugged into it, press and hold power for at least 2 minutes in an attempt to clear the microprocessor controller ic, if this fails! you may have to take the top off to manually eject the DVD.

Picture freezes while dvd player playing

The problem is in the laser pickup assembly, the stepper motor that moves the laser is sticking on the worm gear or excessive ware on the gear linkage is preventing it from moving.

Rented videos are freezing temporarily during playback

If the rented DVD is too scratched it will cause the DVD player to pause while it tries and find the next available playable area on the disc. This may cause the player to skip to another part of the movie. Try wiping the disc with a damp cloth from the centre towards the outer rim and dry the same way. Fingerprints ect. also cause problems. If the scratches are circular the player will have a hard time trying to play the disc. If the scratches are straight and small it shouldn't cause too much problems.

DVD Freezing / skipping

It almost has to be the discs. Try them in a friends unit.

I had a similar problem with DVD's I burned and had printed labels and put the label on the discs. It caused the disc to be out of balance. I peeled them all off (what a job) and the discs play fine now. I'm now a "magic marker" person... :)

DVD freezing

I have had the freezing problem on Sony, Insignia, Cyberhome, HP computer DVD drives, etc.
Based upon very numerous incidents (believe me, I mean hundreds) the problem occurs most frequently after about the first hour as the track moves outward from the hub (and velocity per 360 degree turning increases).(Recording is from the hub out, not from the outer edge in towards the hub). An engineer suggested that the increasing velocity creates the greater possibility of the reader "missing" a data fragment which, in turn, "freezes" the image presently in the buffer. It may "recover"
and move data along again but will probably "freeze" again.
The following definitely helps but does not always work:: Keep the track "tight" by recording actual
running time NOT longer than 30% of the maximum capacity
permitted by the selected speed. Example: On a Sony RDR GX7, I record not more than 60 mins actual time at LP speed
which, on this machine, permits a maximum capacity of 180 minutes using LP. Based on literally hundreds of DVD recordings, I can say positively that the above approach HELPS
limit the problem but it DOES NOT totally eliminate it.
I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM OTHERS, PARTICULARLY PROS, WHO HAVE INFORMATION ON THIS SUBJECT. Even reduced, the problem is irritting.
