First, I think it’s important to know that the Ref side has no cooling coils, it’s basically a box and the cold air in the freezer is blown over by a fan through a channel into the Ref side. This channel has a door which regulates how much cold air goes through. You probably have two control knobs in the Ref side, one controls the temp with numbers 1-9, 9 being the coldest. This temp control tells the compressor how long to run. The other control is for that little door and it may have letters A-E, E being the coldest. If you set it on E (coldest) then this will close that little door and keep most the cold air in the freezer.

Now, why is that cold air not getting over to the Ref side?
1. The little door is not open.
check your control setting. You should be able to feel air coming through the channel on the Ref side.

2. The fan in the freezer is not working.
You can hear this fan running when you open the freezer.

3. The coils on the freezer side are clogged with ice which won't let the fan circulate the air over to the Ref side.
This is a failure of the defrost system.
You can melt this ice manually for a temp fix but the defrost system needs to be checked. Turn it off, take everything out of the freezer, use a hair dryer to warm the back wall. Do this for as long as you can without anything thawing then put it back in, turn it on and you will be good for a couple of days.

SOURCE: no cold air coming into the fridg

iF YOUR REFRIGERATOR SETTING IS HIGH, YOU NEED TO LOWER THE SETTING IN ORDER TO GET IT COLDER.
If you still have no air flow, there is a fan that blows cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator. The motor could be burned out.

Witch way to go to set frig to make it colder up or down

the best setting for fridge and freezer is the middle setting, if u have both set to high, it is bad for the fridge as it shuts out the fridge and opens up all the way for the freezer? thus not enough cold air for the fridge.

Freezer not cold enough

setting the freezer at 7 opens the baffle from the freezer to the fridge to make the fridge colder. It works completely opposite than a person would think. Feel in the back of the fridge with it on this setting. The freezer is dumping all its cold air into the fridge thus equalizing the two parts. if you move the selector to 1, you should feel the air from the freezer cut off in the fresh food compartment. try a setting in the middle and let sit for 24 hours. Hope this helps

I have a magic chef refrigerator that is not cooling. The freezer is working but nothing is staying cold in the frig. Could this be the thermostat?? Don't want to replace frig for a number of reasons. ...

next time send the model number, where is the freezer is it on top or bottom or side by side, anyway all the fridge does is get cold in the freezer and the evaporator fan blows cold air from the freezer into the fridge section and then it returns to the freezer just goes around until it gets cold enough and then the t-stat tells it to shut down so if the freezer is cold you either have a bad fan motor, open the freezer you should hear the fan blowng around in there if not the evap fan motor is bad, also touch the back inside wall of the freezer if there's any frost or ice on the back inside wall you have a defrost problem, bad timer or board, bad defrost thermostat or a bad defrost heater, the ice doesn't melt off of evap coil because one of the parts have failed, the air ducts get blocked with ice and the cold air can't blow into the fridge section,or if you see ice on the ceiling, side and back walls the door was left open and the air ducts blocked with ice,or one more thing if the freezer is on top and you have water dripping into the fridge section the drain in the freezer is blocked and the defrost water can't go down the drain hose, the water is freezing the air ducts up,the drain has to be cleared and all the ice has to be melted out,and yes there is one more thing it could be, some fridges have a damper in them, all it is is a door that opens and closes to let the cold air from the freezer blow into the fridge section so this is why you have to send the model number.but your problem is the cold air in the freezer isn't getting blown into the fridge section because the fan isn't working or the air ducts are blocked with ice.

Even though i have the frig set at 1 and the freezer at 4, things in my frig are freezing. What could be wrong?

the way that works is if you set the fridge area vent wide open and freezer at 4.
then you have called for most of all the cold air to blow from the freezer in to the cooler area.
this causes the cooler area to be to cold. go the other way with the fresh food setting and give it 48 hrs.

Freezer is working fine but no cold air getting to the upper area

If freezer is cold then you are not getting air flow to the frig side. Check your air flow setting It is the one next to the thermostat. If in doubt ,just set both controls to the middle setting and check in an hour or so.

My kenmore refrigerator side by side

All the cooling takes place in the freezer and is blown over to the frig side so the frig side will start to warm up soon. Possible cause is the starting device to the compressor is faulty, compressor motor locked up or cold control faulty and not closing.

Freezer to cold refrigerator not cold enough

sounds like your defrost timer is not working properly . Most fridge/freezers the fridge gets cooled from the cool air from the freezer . But when the defrost timer is not working properly the section between the fridge and freezer freezes up and hence doesnt allow the flow of cool air into the fridge. The defrost timer can be easily replaced.

Side-by-side fridge is freezing food on bottom shelf

Look to the freezer section for a possible frosting on the back wall. If you have a defrost problem in the freezer and air circulation stops cold air from the freezer may settle through the return area of the duct between the refrigerator and freezer section because cold air is heavier the warm air. Normal circulation follows a clockwise pattern.
Also your setting of the refrigerator temperature may be set to cold. Once again cold air settles to the bottom.
