W380 goes blank when connecting via usb in files transfer mode

I have a brand new Sony Ericsson W380, fully charged, connecting to my computer in phone mode successfully, but in file transfer mode, the SonyEricsson Media Manager does not recognize the phone. At the same time, the phone goes blank, non responsive, even after disconnected, the only way for it to resucitate is to remove the battery and place it back in again. Phone or accessory? Any Thoughts? Thanx!

Much the same problem, media manager wants the phone in file transfer mode, (not phone mode) when i do this it starts to connect to the phone and then media manager crashes (window closes). in my case the phone recovers after the usb lead is removed. i have reloaded the media mgr software twice, once from the disc and once from the website. any ideas?

I have excatly the same problem I think when I connect the phone to the media manager and put in file transfermode (as instructed) the phone is not recognised by the computer as it says no phone is connected and the screen goes compleatly blank. All I can do is disconnect the battery and reconncet to restart the phone. However when I have the PC suite programme on and the phone is in Phone mode it works perfectly well. I only bought the phone yesterday!

Finally I got it to work. I had to fully charge my battery as I had noticed that when i was trying before the computer was trying to charge the battery. Once I had fully charged the battery and then attatched it to the computer put it into file transfer mode it was really easy. Anyway I hope you have managed to solve your problem.

I have a different problem. For Sony PC Companion / PC Suite phone must be in "Phone Mode", although mine is in File Transfer Mode and has stopped offering me the choice when I connect. The phone displays stranges codes like F4:6734 and now, since a few restarts, the only thing it does is play an intro (if I press F4:6733 which is in the place of "OK" - when I play it is F4:4590 to stop the intro from playing). No menu works. Recently I could at least call numbers, but now I only have the F4:6734 message with the F4:6733 option...

How to replace the casing of w380

you could buy the w380 casing from your nearest mobile electronic store. But don't replace it manually. because sony ericsson phones are well attached to the casing and it require very cautious work to replace the casing.. so better go to service center and replace it

I would like to transfer photo from my w380 to the desk top to start a photo album

To synchronise/data transfer your phone using PC Suite:
Connect the USB cable to the computer and the phone.
In the phone: When you attach the USB cable to the phone, a USB connection window appears; select Phone mode.
Start the Sony Ericsson PC Suite.
In the computer: The first time you connect your phone to the computer, you must identify and name the phone. Wait for the drivers to be installed (this is done automatically).
In the computer: Select Synchronisation, and select your items to synchronise.
To start the synchronisation, click the Start sync button.

Have a new sony ericsson w350 cell phone, would like to download Media Manager to transfer music from computer to phone. I have a similar problem. My doughter got a new W380 yesterday. I have installed...

The problem is now solved. It was an indexation process that continued in the background. Obviously it took all the power from my computer. Today I didn´t close the window that informed of the indexation and I let it continue until it was finished. I thought it would never stop and the popupwindow whith the staple that showed the process looked frozen. Nevertheless, after nearly an hour the process was ready, 100%. After that I could transfer my music files. Now I´m happy again!
