In the LCD1830 the inverter for the backlight always burns out. They are fairly easy to replace when you remove the back to get inside. A new one is available from MoniServ for $69.99. http://www.lcdpart.com/Products/uhp061104mss.html

The first thing I would do is try another monitor if possible or take this monitor to another computer. If the problem follows the monitor then try shining a flashlight into the screen. If the backlight is out you will be able to see faintly the screen displaying your desktop. If you can?t see anything then the problem is more serious?. If the problem stays with the computer then we have a computer related problem. If you reboot do you see or hear anything?
