I'm pretty sure my TV is the same model.
My problem is wen i turn on my TV it wont stop changing channels. It will work fine for about 5mins then it will keep going down channels (6 then 5 then 4.....) and wont stop. I have tried isolating the TV in another room but that diddn't stop it. I have als taken the batteries out of the remote but that hasnt stopped it.
Ive fiddled about with the buttons on the TV but none of them seem to be jammed.
The TV gives perfect image quality. It just wont stop changing channels.

Re: Tv wont stop changing channels
Ok, Sony had this issue on their early production. The problem you are having is called a leaky switch. The volume down switch on the TV is leaky. To fix this you must replace the switch. This part is called the switch block. Part number 1-473-549-21

I have an AOC 32" LCD HDTV and it turns on by itself as well. Tuning is done via my cable box, so the tv is set on HDMI and I don't have the channel changing issue. I as well am trying to figure it out. The only thing I could suggest is perhaps the remote batteries are low and triggering on it's own. Try changing the batteries, or ensure that the remove it in a drawer or other room so that triggering the unit is impossible. Hope that helps.
Be sure your remote hasn't got a button stuck down which is changing channels. If not, take the batteries out of the remote. If this stops the channel changing there is probably some conductve material stuck across the circuit board
inside the remote. If this is the case you have to check inside the remote by openning it up.
this is the same type of problem happening with other rca models and I know it is the EPROM CHIP but why this is failing is either because of design flaw , dirty enviroment that they were made in , to much voltage or current to the chip or too much of a draw from the chip causing it to fail . Or even a random frequency from the IR sensor or its circut I'm still investigating and testing.
leave the tv unplugged for at least 3 weeks durring this time resolder any solder that don't look good , I did this and it lasted for about 6 months(always plugged in to the wall) before it started doing it again. model # 27v412t
Though you have not mentioned model and brand of your tv so I can offer a tip only here.
Check in what order tv changes its channels, like if its in forward order, +Preset or +Channel knob would be stuck. If its changing in reverse order, check -Channel knob at front of tv.
Hope this info would be helpful.
Resetting the TV If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:
NOTE: Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.
1.Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet. 2.Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...) 3.Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds. 4.Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV. 5.Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again. 6.Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices. 7.Turn on the TV. Give the brand name and the model number..
