The drive motor which spins the drum is connected to the drum by a rubber belt. Sounds like the belt is burned through. Make sure you can spin the inside tub by hand to verify that the tub can turn freely before you replace the belt. The hum is from the drive motor just spinning freely.
It holds 3.9 cu feet. According to Maytag "This 3.9 cu. ft. capacity high-efficiency washer also features the MaxExtract™ option, which spins clothes at up to 1,300 RPM and means less time doing laundry. You get all that and still use 79 percent less water and 76 percent less energy". A cubic foot is the volume of a cube whose sides are all 1 foot long.

*NEW* Search Parts For Your
Maytag Washer On RepairClinic
Every Maytag appliance, including Oversize Capacity Plus and Quiet Plus appliances such as washers and dryers, is manufactured with a product label that displays details about the appliance such as its model and serial numbers. The model number is typically located on the top left corner of the label.
Although the location of the product labels varies by appliance type and model, finding the model number for your Oversize Capacity Plus and Quiet Plus appliance shouldn't take long. Maytag only attaches the product label to certain areas of an appliance.
*Open the lid on your Oversize Capacity Plus or Quiet Plus washer and look for the product label on the inside bottom right corner of the lid.
*Check for the label behind the control panel on the top back of your washer.
*Look on the back main portion of your washer, also known as the base frame, on the left.
It sounds like the belt broke or the lid switch could be bad. Use a screw driver to manipulate the switch with the machine on. If you can tip the thing back enough to check the belt. I hope this helps.
Yes, smell like your belt.. if there is water in tub, try to get it out... (wet vac)... slide your washer out and tilt it back so you can see under... there should be 2 belts.. 1 for gear and 1 for water drain pump... and you can check Sears.com for parts.. good luck...
Need to know a little more info. Need to know if this noise starts when you first turn it on (during the fill up cycle), once the actual washer starts (wash cycle) or when it goes into spin cycle.
It will not spin all water out of clothes
It will spin but gets unleveled during spinning
