Console case is hot after one hour of playing

Just purchased the Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline unit and played for 1 hour to see if worked before giving as Christmas present. Is the units case suppose to be hot or is this a problem with a defect? I would like to give this to my kids which would play it for hours on end, but don't want the house to catch fire with their constant use. What should I do. The unit works perfectly otherwise.

Usually they do get pretty warm, and if there on top of another electronic that is on also, they get even warmer. But as long as its in a well-ventilated place, there shouldnt be a problem with it.

I bought a used slimline ps2; and it plays some games but not other; it won't play two brand new games i bout metal gear solid 2 and god of war... there are no scratches on them whatsoever, and it says...

This means the laser of the playstation 2 has problems, and is going bad. This is very common with playstation 2's. If possible you will need to return it to whomever / wherever you purchased the unit. If you bought it on ebay you can file a paypal claim stating the item is defective. Please make sure you rate my answer 4 thumbs if possible, it would help me a great deal. I would be forever grateful!

1)place the disc in center of console make sure the lock is correct.if lock is not correct there will sound.
2)or technical problem.you should give it to sony service center.

PS2 Shuts Itself Down

hmm, annoyingly this is quite a common problem on the early releases of the slimline Ps2 models. The power supply units get to hot and can cause this problem. I'd recommend getting an updated PSU unit which will be available online

Need help with playstation slimline console not spinning disks when case is on

i dont understand why you could fix a problem by taking its shell off but... its possible the case was dislodged when it was on and put itself into a position where it impacted on the insides of the ps2. e.g pushing the laser out of place.

PS2 Slim will not play

hi Calex988,
Unlike the PS2 original, PS2 slim doesnt have a fan.
Playing it for 2 days, it most likely overheated and burnt something inside. I would return the console and get a replacement, if you have warrently.
