I get a great picture but every few minutes the screen turns black for a second or 2.

it seems that youre monitor has a dry solder problem, try tapping it if the picture resumes to normal for a while than get it resoldered from a technician. if it soesnot solve problem than look out for a burnt resistance.

plug in a different monitor temporarily, check your display settings (right click background, settings, advanced, monitor) and set refresh rate to 60hz. plug in this monitor again and see if that helps some monitors (lcd's especially) cannot handle beyond 60hz

I have had the same problem and now suspect that cleaning fluid from when I cleaned the screen may have seeped in. After a number of things I did over a period of 2 weeks the problem went away completely.
1. You may be able, if that is your problem, solve it quicker with a hair dryer at a distance (no melt down!)
2. Run HP diagnostics and clean the registry
3. Re- install drivers
Like I said I think 1 is the most likely. I went from every couple of seconds to completely solved.
Another possibility is that an MS update may have caused the problem and then another solved it.
