I cannot enable the on board sound card(sound Max)

HiI have just replaced a faulty hard drive, formatted and installed xp-pro, and now I have no system sound at all.Local techs have "disabled" the on board sound card, and I bought a PCI sound card, only to find I have no spare slots to use it!So I have attempted to re-enable sound in the Bios, advanced menu, but cannot identify clearly "sound card", and Im no expert by any means !So I need specific step by step instructions on how to enable the sound card please.(and what are jumpers? how do I fix them?) I presume the tech disabled it in the BIOS,but Ican't be sure?Help please BM in Oz

Does the mother board Asrock 845GV (P4I45GV) support pci sata card

If you are trying to install Windows XP then -
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.http://www.fixya.com/support/r4335035-installing_windows_xp_sata_hard_drive

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive
Test the leads that attach to your ((hard drive from the motherboard)) or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your ((motherboard to hard drive))
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

hope this helps

Windows XP Pro hangs on reboot after installation

Try removing your AGP card and enabling the onboard graphics again. It is possible your Radeon is a 3.3v, but this board only supports 1.5v cards. Take a look at the manual at ftp://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/D845GERG2/BV2RG2_English.pdf
