We put disc in turn it on and it shows up as browser configeration . On opening found the disc hasn't moved at all. Its a slimline playstation 2 nearly 4 years old . Doesn't matter what disc, game or dvd , we put in it it does nothing Please help 9yr old very cranky . (Australia)
Opened the back cleaned ALL of the dust out and pressed all little buttons that we could put it back together and it works!! Thank u i now have a VERY happy 9 yr old. Also on the slimline there are two switches that move your lens ,i have found that inside the tray right hand side in the front you will see a small opening that is the reset switch ((it will wear down or can become damegd after prolonged use))),second is under the tray back left side you cant see it unless you have opend the case ,if there is no contact with one or the other the lens will not slide to start the drive. **if you look at the bottom right of the lens unit when it is at the back of the tray you will see a little black switch that is also a rest for the lens a small toothpick works great to push it*** On the big units this happens allot cleaning the lens with alcohol works i have a big unit we keep in the garage with the top off so we can clean the lens in order for it to work.
Hello, This problem shows that the lense of your Play Station reached at its end. You have to change the with new one.So, replace the optical lens and enjoy the games again. Thanks and happy gaming :) Bye

Sounds like the laser has gone out. The unit will not try to spin unless the laser can see the disc. A new laser can be picked up on ebay for less than $10
my friend had the same problem what he had to do was keep opening and closing the disc tray untill the 'reading disc' shows up and stays up but he got really anoyed with doing this so he got a new one shortly after this the ps3 came out...
IT IS THE EYE. the eye th the little shiny piece that you can bairly see once the tray comes out.you might have put a disk in at a wrong position and scratched the eye. replacing it might be what to do, but i would check first.
ok my friend is olde and slim so what we did to temporlary fix it is clean disc and put the ps2 standing up and see if it spins . if it doenst open and then spin it by hand . then try it again contact me at [email protected] and have the subject

My sons playstation 2 went to browser and after reading the only one solution of putting a cup on top of it, we did try that but we found that the problem was the silver piece had moved, so after we moved the silver piece toward the middle toward where the disk goes, then closed it, and put a little pressure on top and you could feel it turning , then we opened it back up, the silver part had moved back again, but the playstation started back working then without any pressure.. so my suggestion is move the silver part close to where the disk goes.and it will move itself back....It sure worked for us..I was beginning to think money down the drain for this playstation 2....thank God it worked so maybe it will work for you...
my friend i have a ps2 that its cd does not rotate ( i open it completely ) and the lens is working the lens is producing a red ray and it is movinng up and down but just the cd motor doesnot rotate so i checked the smd fuses using my fluke dgital multimeter i found one that is open when i replace it the ps2 work perfectly fine for your information the smd fuses are marked ps1 ps2 ps3 ps4 etc
