Canon A75 stuck between ON & OFF after uploading photos

My camera seemed to be working fine until I disconnected the firewire after uploading photos to my computer. But immediately afterward, the camera became stuck between On & Off, with the lens stuck midway. The lights flash for about a second when the On/Off buttom is depressed, and the lens moves slightly in either direction, but lens will not completely close down into the camera. I have tried removing the batteries and memory card without luck.

My Canon A75 has the EXACT same problem. I have always handled it with care. When I was taking photos with it, the camera suddenly started shutting down without a low battery warning. It just started shutting down, but it stopped with the lens still sticking half way out. Like yours, the top green light flashes when I try pressing the power button. Any ideas?

Uploading pictures from Canon A540 to computer

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Trying to upload photos from my Canon Power shot SD780 is to my Mac but when I plug in the cable the camera says "incompatible jpeg". And no icon to upload the photos shows up on my Mac.

if using iPhoto, check for software updates. When the newer cameras come out, sometimes it results in incompatibility with the software and they're always working to update this.
Also check your card in your camera. Some of the newer high speed cards struggle with uploads. You can purchase aftermarket high speed card readers and this will allow firewire rapid uploads direct to iPhoto and Aperture.

Canon s21s

Think that you mean the S2 IS? If so, Canon has not yet to offered an advisory repair of that particular problem (although many people think they should as this seems to be quite a common problem for the S2). There are however some simple things that you can try to revive your camera from the likely "stuck shutter" problem that you're experiencing. See this blog article.

USB device not recognized

Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2009/01/how-do-i-download-photos-or-pictures.html

Blank LCD works but wont display

I have a Canon powershot A85 camera, and it works fine, but I get no picture in the LCD screen. It does take pictures and I can look at the pictures after I have taken them. I don't know if you live in Australia, if you do ring Canon on 131383. A lot of Canon camera's and also a lot of other digital camera's all have a problem with the CCD Chip. My brother has a Canon A75, he has had is for many years, and they fixed it free of charge, because it is a problem the camera has, so not something we done. Look on the internet and you will find a lot of info on it, also that it will be fixed free of charge. I also found the same information on a lot of other digital camera's, so ring Canon and find out, I hope this helps you. Kind Regards Marion
