There are two reasons normally that the cassette door won't open when you slide the Eject button on the JVC GR-SXM320. One: the camera uses a powered eject feature. If the battery is low and the AC adapter isn't plugged in and powering the camera, this doesn't work. Two: if the LCD monitor screen is not open to more than a 60 degree angle, then there is an interlock that keeps the cassette door closed. This avoids the door hitting the screen. It's best to have the monitor at a 90 degree angle to the camera body when you open the cassette. Press Stop if there is a chance that the camera is recording to the current cassette.
Note: since the camera is older, check that the AC adapter is getting warm when it's plugged in and connected to the camera. This checks if the adapter is working. Check if your battery pack is good. If you have the BN-V856U battery pack, you need the AA-V80U charger to charge the battery. The charger that came with the camera will not work.
Third party battery packs and chargers are still available for the GR-SXM320. Use the manual to look up the part number and Google for the battery or use the camera model number to find available parts. For example, a replacement BN-V11U battery is available at Amazon and here: https://www.bestbatt.com/JVC-BN-V11U-BN-V12U-BN-V14U-BNV-V18U-Battery-p/bbbnv11u.htm .
Could be your reel has a problem or capstan gear is broken. To confirm if gear is broken, apply power to your camera and eject the cassette housing(with or without cassette) and take a look at your idler gear(found at the center of supply and take up reel) if it is rotating. It must rotate momentarily and stop. Good Luck
E01 Mechanism has not fully loaded up to the stop position
E-01, E-02, E-05, or E-06 is an Emergency Error Code. In the event of a malfunction the unit will shut down and display a code which is to inform a technician which area of the camcorder to examine in order to ascertain the nature of the problem. Try the following steps: 1) Remove power source for 1 minute. 2) Reattach power source. 3) Try operating the camera. The indication E-03 or E-04 is an Emergency Error Code. In the event of a malfunction the unit will shut down and display a code. This is to inform an independent JVC authorized service center which area of the camcorder to examine in order to ascertain the nature of the problem. The E-03 or E-04 code relates to one of the tape spindles not turning. This could be the result of too much slack on the video tape. If E-03 or E- 04 is displayed it may be possible to correct the problem by removing the tape slack. In order to do this follow these steps: 1) Remove power source for 1 minute. 2) Reattach power source. 3) Press "EJECT" (DO NOT PRESS POWER) 4) Repeat above steps until tape ejects. 5) Tighten and insert a new tape."
A common E01 problem with the JVC is caused by electrically conductive residues on the very end of the connector strip which connects the small front circuit panel to the main circuit panel (this residue can only be seen under a microscope). Symptoms are, the mechanism remains closed or the cassette holder will not latch down and remains permanently raised. Basically the micro cannot read the mechanism position data. The connector strip needs to be taken out & carefully cleaned with alcohol.
If all else fails then its a trip to JVC service and a biil of between $`100 and $250 depending on what the problem is. My last E01 was a motor change and cost $180 but the cam has been fine ever since but next cam will be a Canon..
There should be an error code star with E-01 to E-06.Below is an example you have to make sure that which error code showing on your camera
Whenever some abnormal signal is input to the syscon CPU,
an error number (E01, as an example) is displayed on the
LCD monitor or (in the electronic view finder).
In every error status, such the message as shown below
E01 LOADING--------
1. The mechanism is locked during mode shift.
2. The mechanism is locked at the mechanism loading
end, because the encoder position is skipped during
mechanism mode shift.
3. No power is supplied to the loading MDA
E01 means Mechanism has not fully loaded up to the stop position
E06 meansTape drive motor is not rotating or stalled.
Thses two faults indicate a tape jam. please remove the cassette and insert a new cassette.
Dirty video head! Playback newly opened blank tape for five minutes, after that eject, reinsert, playback then eject again five times, these will serve as your video head cleaner, never use "video head cleaning cassette tape" for it will only damage your camera.
Most camera has built in video head cleaner installed inside and activates only when you insert, initial play/rec, and ejects a tape. If the problem is still there you need pro fix then.[:0)
