LG Dryer DLG7188RM LP conversion back to NG

Hello there
as you have answered before, I have a gas dryer and it had been converted to LP. I need to go back to NG and I know I need this part...4948EL4001B
I can get this online or at a dealer near me, however, how do I take the unit apart? How does the pressure regulation occur? Thanks
PS model number is gld7188rm not dlg5932

Thanks so much, time to go find the part. Why does the LP conversion look like it is more than one piece in a kit?? there are no other parts to retrofit for NG? Thanks again greatly

  • eyekutr Dec 04, 2008

WHen we went to test the conversion back to NG, we had not assembled the entire thing back and it would fire up and almost within a couple seconds shut off. We figured it needed the closed loop within for proper operation. Once we reassembled the front on, and retested, the burner came on and stayed on as it should. Thanks

Disconnect power. Open dryer door and remove 2 phillips screws near lint filter. Remove three phillips screws at very back of dryer top which go through an L shaped part into the back of the dryer. (the L shaped part remains attached to the dryer top) Push the dryer top back about 2 inches and lift off. Remove one screw at each top front corner holding front control panel on to dryer. Remove control panel by carefully releasing plastic tabs which are holding front control panel onto metal support. (Watch out for sharp edges !) You can unplug all electrical plugs, or just swing it up on top of the dryer. (careful not to scratch the plastic control panel) Remove the four phillip screws now assessable at the top of the dryer's front panel / door panel. Tilt forward, unplug door switch and drum light, and lift front panel off . Now set the panel aside. At this point, you may be able to continue with the conversion, but it is easier to do and see if you remove the drum.

To remove drum, Unplug the sensor wire at the bottom of the drum support and remove four phillips screws (going into sides of dryer) holding front drum support and lift up and remove front drum support. Reach in under the drum to unhook the belt. Take drum out.

Take two phillip screws out of flame spreader and push flame spreader back off brass orifice into the burner cone a bit to remove it. Unscrew brass orifice and replace with the Natural Gas orifice. Turn the brass slot headed regulator blocker screw on the front top of the gas valve all the way up. Reassemble.

Sounds complicated but it's not real bad.

A FixYa rating is expected with this much help. Thanks.

Other than the orifice and the short instruction sheet, there is usually a sticker to put on the dryer so that service personel will know that the dryer has been converted to LP.

Only the Natural gas orifice is needed (parts wise) to convert back to Nat gas.

Who did the conversion to lp? Do you have the old part from the conversion still? If not you can order a kit to put it back to stock which is ng. Not hard for a guy that's handy but time consuming. 2-2.5hrs.

Sounds like you need an ignitor part number 5318EL3001A but you will need a gas technician to work on this legally. Best off to call a reliable service company such as Sears.

Hello there. If the parts were saved, they can be reused. If not, contact your propane provider and tell them that you plan to convert back to natural gas. They will be able to get you the kit you need, and will possibly have a technician come out and install it for a fee.
