How can i boot my dell studio from cdrom so i can reinsall from external drive?

Turn on the machine, press F12 once the Dell splash screen is displayed, the boot menu will show up. From the Boot Menu, use up-down arrow keys on the keyboard and highlight the CD/DVD/CD-RW and press Enter. You will see another menu, select "Boot from Cd-Rom" and press enter to select it. The system will boot up from the CD-Rom. Please note that this settings is only for one time boot, once the system is restarted, the boot sequence will be restored to the previous saved settings. If you wish to set it from the Bios, enter the Bios settings by hitting F2 or Delete (should be shown at the bottom of the Dell splash screen) while you see the Dell Splash Screen. In the Bios settings menu, go to Boot options and make the changes with the boot sequence.

While windows is booting first go to BIOS settings by pressing "Del" or "Esc" then change the boot priority that is save the first boot priority as cd-rom and second boot priority as hard drive... so that you can boot you system with bootable cd...
And then while formating the system just delete the partion that is only "c:/" and install the windows in to that and don't even do anything to your "d:/" drive then you can get all your data back... Abd the cd should be bootable format...

First you need to make the computer to boot from the CD ,when the computer starts first time look for something that says to change boot order press F8 or similar.

System is no boot neither with cd-rom nor hard disk

Hi, Based of your post/description and assuming not hardware problem, you may have to set up the priority boot device in the BIOS to CD. This will tell your mb to look for a boot medium from the cd first. This is normally in the Advance Setup/1st Boot Device. Of course soon as installed, you have to boot from the HD next time. Good luck and kind regards.
