The previous poster is most likely correct. You have to use Microboards ink for the PF-2, PF-3 and PF-Pro printers. The part number you need is the PRF38ml. The PF-2 printer has a sensor for the barcode on the PRF38ml as well as a RFID chip for verification.

If this does not fix your issue, then the sensors that scan the barcode and the RFID chip may be broken, dirty or out of alignment. If so, you need to contact Microboards or an authorized Microboards repair center for repair services.

Can not print direct to cd dvd

  1. Find a printer that prints directly on a CD; this is becoming a popular feature and these printers are getting more affordable.
  2. Step 2 Buy some printable media. Printable media is a bit harder to find and a bit more expensive but you need a special surface that will absorb the ink. They will be marketed as "inkjet printable" discs. Look for them online or at your electronics store.
  3. Step 3 Set up your printer for CD-R printing. Chances are your printer can print on paper and CDs, so you'll have to let your printer know what you are up to. In your printer properties, select CD or DVD as your media type. You can do this from the print dialog right before you print.
  4. Step 4 Clean the rollers. You can do this by running a clean sheet of paper through the printer without printing anything. Load up several sheets of paper and press the cancel button to feed it through. Do this a couple times.
  5. Step 5 Pull out the tray. This may be a separate part of your printer or built-in. Read the manual and learn how to pull it out properly before you go yanking at random and breaking things.
  6. Step 6 Place the CD in the tray. Make sure there is no dust or paper scraps on the tray and place the CD on the tray so it lies flat and the printable side is facing up. For smaller CDs, place the adapter first and then put the CD down.
  7. Step 7 Insert the CD tray into the printer. If the tray was attached to the printer, put it back where it came from. For separate trays you may need to wait until you are ready to print and load it into the manual feed.
  8. Step 8 Design your label. Your printer will have come with label designing software. Take some time. Make it pretty.
  9. Step 9 Print. Double check your print settings and print directly onto your CD. Choose "File" then "Print" and click "Okay." If you are loading manually, now is the time. Manual loading slots are usually on the back.
  10. Step 10 Allow your CD to dry. It is recommended to let it sit for 24 hours. There is a lot of ink on there and you do not want to ruin it with smudges.

How to print cd covers with HP Photosmart Essential 3 5 i have microsoft office 2010 beta and open office 3.1 installed and some avery standard #8931-face-cd labels nd can not figure out where the tools...

hi Justchuck69.
You can use the software that came with your HP Photosmart all-in-one printer to create CD covers and then print them on the discs. For this to work, the CD must be printable, and you shouldn't use CDs that have their manufacturer, size and speed already printed on them. You must use the latest HP software to create and print the covers. If you can't find the installation disc that came with your printer, download the latest version of the software from HP's Support website.

1 Launch the HP Solution Center that was installed on your computer when you installed the HPsoftware.
2 Click the "View Library" button to open the photo library and then select the folder that contains the images you want to use for your CD cover from the left pane. Click the "Add This Folder" to add the folder to the library. You can only use photos from the library to create the CD cover.
3 Click the "Back" arrow near the top of the window to return to the Welcome screen.
4 Click the "Create" button, choose "Disc Labels," and then click either "Standard CD" if you want to print on a standard CD or "Mini CD" if you want to print on a mini CD. Click "Choose This Format."
5 Choose a design from the list of designs, and then click the "Choose This Design" button.
6 Select the photo or photos you want to print on your CD, and then click the "Add These Photos" button.
7 Use the controls in the Edit Your Disc Label section to zoom, rotate and reposition the photo. Click the text boxes and type or paste some text, if you want to add text to the label. Click "Create" when you're satisfied with the result.
8 Select the HP Photosmart printer from the "Printer" drop-down box, and then ensure the "Standard Sizes" option is selected.
9 Click the "Print" button when you're ready to print the cover on the CD. The "Open CD/DVD Tray" message is displayed on the printer's LCD.
10 Pull the CD/DVD tab below the main tray to remove the CD holder, and then place the disc on the ring of the CD holder with its print-side up. Gently press on the CD until it snaps into place.
11 Lower the CD/DVD tray located just below the control panel, and then insert the CD holder into the tray. The printer starts printing as soon as the white lines on the tray and holder match up.
12 Wait until the printing process is complete, remove the CD holder from the tray, let the ink on the CD dry for a few minutes, and then remove the disc from the holder.
13 Close the CD/DVD tray, and then insert the CD holder back into the storage space.
Tips
  • checkPhoto Creations, the latest software from HP, does not support printing CD labels. HP Photosmart Essential is available for download from HP's FTP website (link in Resources).
  • checkThe back of the HP all-in-one printer must be at least three inches away from the wall or other objects.
  • checkIf you use a small CD, don't forget to flip the holder ring over the disc before you snap the CD holder into place.
  • checkYou can add additional folders to HP Photosmart Essential if you can't find the photos you want to print on the CD.
  • checkYou can bold or italicize the text when you type it, but you can't choose a different font or change the size of the text.
  • checkAlternatively, you can use a free third-party utility to create the CD cover and then print it on the disc.

Warnings
  • closeDon't turn off or unplug the printer from the computer while it prints the CD cover.
  • closeInformation in this article applies to HP Photosmart Essential 3.5. Procedures may vary slightly or significantly with other versions or products.

Do you know how to print on a CD/DVD?

I have just bought the same printer. if you have found out how to do this then excuse me. It isn't clear cut but basicaly all you do is :-
1/ Make sure you have a blank label stuck on your disc, you can also buy printable discs.
2/ Place the cd onto the cd holder label side up.
3/ Pull the front cover down - where the paper comes out.
4/ If you look carefully further inside where the paper comes out you will see another flap/cover - carefully pull that down.
5/ you will notice 2 little rollers and an arrow next to the right hand roller.
6/ place the cd tray carefully onto the rollers and align the arrows on the tray with th one on the ptinter.
7/ now your set for the software - open the CD Label Print software - click on new - click on image tab - and either image file or if it is from the scanner then select twain capture - if you select image file then either make your own image for the disc or select an appropriat file from the browes button.

I won't go on any more but just experiment, you will soon see how easy it is.

Canon MP810-CD-R Tray loading-printing problem

I read on another site that you must wait until prompted on the screen to put the tray into position. Opening the inner door and loading the tray before asked to and then pressing OK was the key to fixing the problem on the MP830.
It's the simple things that always get you into trouble, I guess.

Disc Feeding Problem

I am assuming you are using a PF-2 printer. If you are using a standard HP78 ink cartridge instead of the Microboards cartridge, the unit will only print approx 5 discs before it stops. The microboards cartridges have a security tag under the barcode label that is scanned by a magnetic reader on the left hand part of the unit. If you are careful, you can use a razor blade and remove the label from a microboards cartridge and tape it on the front of a HP ink and save yourself about $25 an ink cartridge...
