Now for a proper answer haha,
Remove the bin and underneath you will find a large disc (filter holder) that the bin in sits on. This needs to be removed. Its not as easy as it should be either.
Lay the machine flat on a table and stand behind the filter and pull the two top tab points with some firmly place fingers. Once these tabs release the last bottom tab can be gently flipped off with a flat blade screwdriver from the back (behind the wand hose).
I like to peel out the old filter and clean it up with a razor blade. Once this is done you can fit a lower cost DC14 filter in and save some money. No peeling needed if you buy a DC15 filter for big bucks.
Good luck.

Dyson animal will not stand up and question...
Posted by madmimi on May 28, 2008
my dyson will not stand up by itself=catch seems to have failed and online instructions from dyson have not solved the problem- can anyone help
my second question is will dyson replace my lifetime hepa filter that is located beneath the debris collector, it is very black and is not washable
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
In answer to your 1st question, you may want to check with a factory authorized vac dealer who does repair on the Dyson vacuums to see if they can correct the problem, or call the Dyson factory phone # listed below for the nearest vac dealer in your area. 2nd question. The Hepa filter is mostly a wear item and I was not aware of the lifetime Hepa filter and that also would be a good question for the factory to answer, I could not find an answer to the questions and they might be able to clarify the answer to both your questions. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

If you look carefully where hose & elbow jount enter machine you will see a slot.
Rotate elbow so that lug on elbow aligns with slot & pull off.

SOURCE: remove hepa filter
Turn the Dyson on its back as if you were servicing the beater brush and on the RH side you'll see the filter housing for the HEPA and a T-15 Torx screw. Remove this screw and then remove the cover for the HEPA filter.
Hi Mary Ellen,
I am sorry to hear you are having difficulty with
your DC15. Most Dyson vacuums have a built
in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually
happens because the filter needs washing or your machine is blocked. If your
machine turns off on its own, unplug it and leave it for at least an hour to
cool down. Remember to check the filter and look for blockages before
re-starting. For more information on completing these checks please
