Can't get xp home to reinstall

  • Anonymous May 07, 2012

I have the restore cd from hp. I've wiped the disk, repartitioned and tried to load the os but it only gets to the first restart then I get a blank light blue screen with nothing on it but a cursor and it goes no further ever.

  • Anonymous May 07, 2012

so now what do I do?

  • Anonymous May 09, 2012

Same result. I made one partition and it still stops completely at first restart. Any more suggestions? I'm about ready to take it to someone in town to fix.

f10 gets me nothing--just goes to the c drive (or cd). I tried the repair choice and it only goes to an administrator password (which I set at admin and got an invalid notice, then set for none and still got an invalid notice). This is crazy. My disks are HP. Someone had messed with this computer before it was given to us because there was no restore information on it and no restore point. So when I first tried to reinstall xp it started this freezing up at the first restart and nothing goes past that.

HP compaq has f10 bios which needs a hidden partition. XP home installation has to use the restore cd from HP?

Hp restore cd does its own partitions and formating on any used disk. You did not have to wipe it and partition the primary. If you did any logical partition, you may run into an empty partition and stopped booting.

Try partition only one primary? Then reinstall hp restore cd XP home.

Try f10 to restore to default, then install XP home.. Your hp restore cd must have HP label on it, not just another microsoft install disk.

If the cd is not HP, the bootldr is not in the hidden partition where f10 is. that is why it can not boot.

Since the cd can not boot when installing, try to get one from ebay?

I need Product Key of my PC

Did you have Windows XP Professional on your laptop before you downloaded it from the internet? If not, that's your first problem.

When you reinstall or download a operating system you must use the one that is on the Certificate Of Authentication (COA) Sticker on the bottom of your laptop or inside the battery case. That's your key on it (the series of 5 letters and numbers).

If you use someone else's disk to install or download like you did you must make sure that it is the same operating system as yours. In other words, if your COA says Windows XP Home, then you can't install Windows XP Professional because when it comes time to activate it will fail.

Borrow a operating system disk that is the same as your COA from neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and reinstall windows. When it asks for the key, use the key that is on your COA Sticker then it will activate.

If you have to take it to a computer repair shop they should install the operating system for $60 or less if you have a valid COA Sticker.

It should have come with a system restore disk. Back up what you want to save and load the disk and then reboot.

You can go to compaq.com and order the system restore disk if you can't find the one that came with the computer.

then click on
hp-pc- recovery tools-cd
noW click on
creat the recovery tools cd
use a cd(r) disk ...to creater the pc tools cd
then click next
and wait for it to creat a
system tool recovery cd

and keep it in a safe place

and put that windows product key in to a notepad
and copy the notepad
to a back up cd put the

now you can make back up copy's of the recovery cd's you have made
with the hp.cd creater cd's you use sonci my dvd to make copy's of them cd's
with hp-pc-recovery cd you can use windows burner or sonic my dvd

Have a 1999 gmc small suv truck that will not start-up after checking the timeing and replace rotor and cap also spark plugs with .060 gap.

> Microsoft Windows XP Home with SP2 ...

Backup all your files & music & E-mail & contacts to an external device: DVD-writable, USB memory-stick, external disk-drive.

Reinstall Windows, and reload your files.

That should fix any SOFTWARE problems -- if you have a HARDWARE problem (dying disk-drive, bad RAM, et cetera)
that's a separate round of trouble-shooting.
