Distorted picture Everytime I turn on the TV (2001 Mitsubishi big screen model # VS-45607) the picture is distorted and it is taking longer and longer for the picture to clear up. What is causing this and is it worth it to fix it?

When you say distorded, is it like a 3-d effect? or more of zig zag type lines in the picture. If there are color outlines like a 3-d effect, then you are having a convergence preakdown, and are going to need to have the convergence IC's replaced. if the problem is the piture is zagged edges and zig zag, lines or a smearing effect, most likly it is the PIP modle is going bad, and even if you dont use the PIP, the video still goes through that module. If it does not have a PIP feature, then there are bad capacitors in the sweep power supply and the problem will get progessivly worse till the set wont come on anymore. Hope this helps. Good Luck

Mitsubishi VS-55609 distorted Picture Flickers

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs. To get fixed either call in a local TV repair company or goto sites such as Tv Repair Kits to get a repair kit with instructions. Here is there link.

They have put together complete kits for most models that include the parts, step by step photo instructions, repair assistance, etc.

Wavy horizonal disturbance in picture

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

This is a convergence problem and not really a DIY Many amateurs try it to save money but end up spending more on it than a professional. There are dozens on here that managed to fix it for a day or two only to have it fail again.

Mitsubishi VS-45607 45" Big Screen

Good Day, Delano1981;

It may cure the problem but I would suspect the 9 Volt source
CHECK C2P05 100 UFD 16 V OFF PIN 3 OF IC2P01 AND
IC2P01 PART # 270P466020 (9-VOLT REGULATOR). BOTH
ARE ON THE SIGNAL PCB.

This should resolve your TV"s condition.

Good Luck, big IRISH.

MITSUBISHI VS-50801 50" TV

Bad convergence IC possible - It's cheap if you do it your self, expensive if you take it to a repair shop. My Toshiba finally came on and stayed on after the IC's burned completely up and smoke poured out the back. Then mine stayed on with a distorted image. A good place for parts -> http://www.electronix.com/catalog/default.php/cPath/6
