When I load a DVD to play or record it reads the disc and then ejects it and I receive a message that it is "unknown disc, check disc". It was working fine, then the next time I tried to play or record a disc I received the message.
I also tried to call 1800-736-7679 and a recording tells me that I have reached an unassigned number
try another number. That is the only number in the manual.
I tried to resolve the problem by unpluging the DVD for at least 5 seconds. I even tried using the DVD sent to me some time ago to to upgrade. Nothing worked.
3 out of 10 will record 30-40 min and say DISK FULL..
2+ out of 10 I'll record 2- 1 hour shows then I'll
get a " disc unknown " error...

When a unit does that it can be a fingerprints on a disc not letting it read the disc and or also that it is not finalized. Can also be a disc format that does not work on unit. Some units only work with either -R or +R and not both. Hope this helps
I also have this annoying problem - but I bought mine new on ebay and have zero after-sales support. I have tried all the hacks I cna find over the last 12 months and when I am finished, the messages all say 'congratulations, you're now region free'. But even the local DVDs don't work. Disc ejects itself with irritating message 'unknown disc'. Does anyone have this problem who has a SALES RECEIPT from an authorised LG dealer? If so, can you jump up and down with LG until they offer a solution? Thanks!
The cd tray eject after put in the DVD movies, but VCD working fine...it is means that the drive's region code haven't set yet .(please refer to user manual to setting the region code) ..or unplug the recorder drive from the dvd player, using the computer setting to change the region code by connecting to computer's IDE cable .
Have you tryed to use a lens cleaning disc yet. The laser lens on these players and recorders alike, must have the lens cleaned every oince in awhile. If that does not help, most likly you have a bad laser pickup assembly and you will need to replace the plaer as to have that repaiered, you could buy a new unit. Good Luck
remove the cover and see if the dvd run, if not you got a motor problem or a motor drive one,if yes then try cleaning the reading eyes(pickup)by blowing dry air (get a can at radio shack)check for goods, if dosent work, take it to a shop for a repair thats all you can do, is a job for a tech....good luck
