You DO NOT have to take your machine to a "certified technician" to fix
this problem. Stand behind your machine, lean over and look at the front: Right in the center of the slit between the machine and the beater bar head, you will see a black tab. Simply slide a
thin, flat-head screwdriver down and magically the machine will
release. NOW: once it\'s released, simply examine the area where your
screwdriver JUST slid down...see the dirt and gunk? DON\'T follow the
MANY suggestions of adding lubricant "which only works for a short
while" (by their own admission) WIPE AWAY THE DIRT AND GUNK and voila!
YOU are now a "certified technician" and you didn\'t have to sit through
any technical school to get there! You go girl!!!!!!!

Official advice and support for Dyson technology

      Verified Fixya Pro

SOURCE: I can't get the animal

      Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC28. The cleaner should recline easily into the vacuuming position when one foot is placed on the cleaner head, and the handle is lowered. If it's not doing this, check the clear U-bend at the rear of the machine for obstructions. For guidance on doing this, please see the link to our Support page below:

      http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1236&product=DC28-ANIMAL

After removing any blockages from the U-bend, stand the cleaner upright, and try reclining it again. It might be worth using a little more force than usual, in case the upright lock mechanism has jammed. If this doesn't help, or if you're reluctant to try this, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and provide further assistance. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to [email protected], someone will be in contact as soon as possible.

      Kind regards,

      Dyson will not recline

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty reclining your DC28. This can sometimes be caused if an object - for example, a pen that's accidentally been vacuumed up - is jamming the changeover valve. This is easy to check for using the airway inspection port:

If you're unable to find anything jamming the changeover valve but continue to have difficulty reclining your vacuum, please get in touch directly so our experts can provide further assistance. If a repair or a replacement part is needed we can also confirm if this is covered under our 5-year warranty. You can reach us on 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA)

How do i change the belt on my dyson dc28

      Hi there,

DC28 has a belt which should not require replacement. If you're concerned that the brushbar doesn't seem to be rotating when the cleaner is reclined into the vacuuming position, you'll find it helpful to run through our online troubleshooting guide to check everything is correct with your cleaner:

      http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1241&product=DC28-ANIMAL

By checking for and removing any obstructions from the cleaner head, and removing threads or hair wrapped around the brushbar, you should be able to resolve your issue without any further assistance. However, if you've run through these steps and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to [email protected], someone will be in contact as soon as possible.

The cleaner should recline easily into the vacuuming position when one foot is placed on the cleaner head, and the handle is lowered.
