Powers on, rotates- but does not heat

I have an over the range Hotpoint Microwave model# rvm1335bc001. It was working fine yesterday. This morning it won't reheat my coffee. It powers on, lights on, turntable rotates, but instead of the humming sound when activated, it has a growling noise instead. It cannot be the fuse because it powers on, is it the magnetron, and if it is so, can someone with some electronics and electrical skill fix it? If not the magnetron, what can the problem be (other than being a 2000 year model? Thanks.

same problem but there is no growling sound it sounds normal.

Same symptoms but without the growl.

Door safety switches appear to work just fine. i.e., not broken and move.

Thanks for the fix! Since I had Home Warranty (appliance) insurance, I opted to spend $50 on my Warantry insurance and got the Magnetron replaced. Works like a charm! I saved much moolah over buying a brand new Microwave. You guys ROCK!!!!

Touchpad lights up and works, oven sounds like its working, internal light works and carousel rotates, but items do not heat up. Can this just be a fuse or is it the magnetron?

Thanks for mentioning that growling sound, which is a classic clue to a bad mag, though not all bad ones make that sound. Sounds like someone growling into a coffee cup! *grin* For this job, the unit will probably have to be taken down from the wall mount. I recommend 2 people for that job. A spotter, if you will. When replacing the magnetron, it's very important to be sure the new one has the wire mesh "washer" (RF gasket) around the antenna which sticks out the top. If it's not on the new one, use the one from the old mag. Very important. Also, you should really discharge the high voltage capacitor. This case also illustrates an interesting thing about part prices: GE WB27X10017 $121.75 Appliance Parts Pros 10QBP0230 $60.42 (check this one to be sure picture matches yours) A-1 10QBP0230 $54.00 Tritronics 10QBP0230 $42.85 I can advise you further concerning safety and disassembly if you need help:

Yes. This is exactly what I have on my GE model JE 1660. After a few times when the pannel displayed Sensor Error but worked find after restrating it suddenly it stop working a few weeks later. The current is on as evidenced by the lighted pannel, and the turntable works but, it does not heat food or water and has a very loud growling noise. Its a 2000 model. Is it better to get a new microwave or try to replace the megatron?

In microwave ovens, I have had the turn table motor unit become defective, or the power source to it has failed.

sounds like the control board, but most times the magnetron fails and if a fuse failed then it needs a capacitor too

Microwave will not heat

The problem is the magnetron, "heart of the microwave oven" or the inverter board if 7 years old or less.

How do you replace intermittent door switch on Hotpoint RVM1335BC001 microwave

Open the Micro door, and remove the air/Vent cover on the top if there is one, Usualy 2 screws on top or the middle of the cover.
Remove the screw holding the Controller board and then you will have access to the door switches 2-3 of them depending on Manif.

Also make sure you have the power unpluged befoe you do any of this.

Good luck!

Everything appears to work fine but it is not heating anymore.

If the microwave oven appears to be working but it is not heating the food, it is very possible that the magnetron, or its power supply has failed.

Have GE JVM2050 over the range microwave, which stopped heating food and water since this morning. All other functions including light, key pad, clock, turntable work normal. The magnetron sound also

if everything works except the heating, it is most likely the mag tube is on its way out.........that is the most common reason for it not too cook.......since the microwave is a GE and it is 3.5 years old, i would say you are better off buying a new microwave, the mag tube starts at around $70.00 and up + the labor it costs too have a service person put it in........around another $60.00

Melted turntable support

Yes, that's part # WB06X10138 (coupler) and you can get it here.

You will need to remove the bottom cover of the microwave and remove the turntable motor to get the new coupler in.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
