You have to find the person that put the Hard Drive Password on. I'm not saying you stole the laptop, but 99% of the time if a person has a laptop and does not know the hard drive password, the laptop is stolen. The original Owner put the password on the hard drive to keep thieves from getting to sensitive data. It could have been set remotely by the original owner if the laptop i stolen.

If you know your hard disk password, then go to the BIOS configuration and then to the password/security section and then to the hard disk password setting. You need to enter the hard disk password and then you can select disable hard disk password.

if the drive its self is locked with a password there is a pay per use program called hd unlocker and it can be found at http://www.hddunlock.com/ if it is locked by the bios you may just open up the laptop and remove the bios battery or just go download the universal boot cd-rom at http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ if you need more help write me a reply back

Hi there
This mainly happens when someone else has been on the laptop and have been into the bios to create a HDD password accidentally or otherwise.
you may be able to reset the password from within the bios although this is highly unlikely, you may have to ask your son what the password is or if a friend could have created a password.
Your not going to be able to access the hard drive until you have or can change the password
