Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P41 Digital Camera
Camera powers up but the lens cover fails to open and there is a message on the screen that reads "Turn the power off and on again" . I have turned the power on and off several times. Even removed the batteries and waiting the prescribed 2 minutes before reinstalling. Fresh batteries have no effect.. The card is installed correctly and the cameras reads the card just fine. I even tried the "Reset" button with no luck. I would appreciate some assistance. Thanks Mark
It could be some grit or sand causing the lens cover to not open, so the camera won't initialize. Try cutting a slip of paper narrow enough to slide between the lens opening frame and the lens cover. Move it in and out to clear any grit that might cause the spring-loaded cover to bind. Good luck !

Hi,
Error: TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN is displayed on the LCD screen when the Lens Mechanism is stuck or when affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.
Performing a manual power reset
Turn off the camera.
Remove the battery pack.
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.
Reinsert the battery pack.
Turn on the camera.
To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE Option from the Main Settigs 1 Menu of the Camera to OK.This will set the user defined settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.
If the issue persists, service may be required.
Thanks for contacting FixYa

Usually answered in minutes!
Tried the paper slip as suggested for about 20 minutes in all.
The paper treatment seems like a great idea. Replacing the paper often because it does get bent up when doing this proceedure.
In between replacing the paper I would try to see if it worked... No luck.
Here is something new I didn't note before.. When I put the camera right up to my ear I can hear a click when I power up then I can hear a motor humming. Is that good news?
I was afraid of that. I called the help desk at Sony. They were not too helpful. They had their scripted replies etc. Bottom line here is that they said I could send the camera in for repair and for $110.00 they would repair it.. I have a hard time spending more that half the original cost of the camera to repair something.
I will try a local repair shop
Thanks for your help.
My camera may be 4 years old, but still in great condition, except the lens shutter will not open or close all the way. The camera tells me to turn off then on again. I've tried to hold it open, but the camera will not take pictures this way. Because of a broken lens shutter do I need a whole new camera??? Someone please help, I miss taking pictures!
