SOURCE: i have two screw settings on my echo hedge trimmer

On an otherwise healthy machine, the carb tuning procedure goes like this:

1) With the engine off, turn both mixture screws clockwise until they lightly "seat". Then turn them back counter clockwise two (2) full turns each.

2) Turn idle screw CCW and observe the throttle shaft movement. When it stops moving, the throttle plate is completely closed. From here, turn idle screw back clockwise two (2) full turns.

These initial settings should be sufficient to get a healthy machine to start up and stay running for the carb-tune procedure.

START THE ENGINE AND ALLOW ONE MINUTE TO WARMUP.

3) Turn the mixture screw closest to the engine (marked "L" ) clockwise in small increments (1/4 turn at a time) until the engine smooths out. Then back CCW until you have a slightly rough idle.

4) Accellerate to full throttle and turn the mixture screw closest to the air filter (marked "H" ) clockwise until the engine revs get higher and eventually begin to fall off again. Turn back CCW beyond ultimate top speed . . . until a very slight flutter is heard at top speed.

5) Release the trigger and adjust base idle speed until the blades barely crawl, then lower it one more touch.

6) Repeat steps 3, 4, and 5 once more and then check throttle response on quick rev-ups. VERY VERY small adjustments to the "L" screw in a CCW direction will give better response but larger adjustments will affect "H" settings.
That's it.

Special note for step 5: When you make the FINAL base idle adjustment, set it as high as possible without allowing the blades to move. This facilitates easier starts when warm.

Hope this helps,
Dolf-

Echo string trimmer will not rev up idles fine and starts up easy

The fuel mixture and or idle speed may need adjustment. If yours is a newer trimmer and it has a two cycle engine, these adjustments are sealed by the manufacturer. Some adjustment tools are sold on line but finding the right one can be a challenge. It seems the manufacturers almost force you to take it to a small engine repair shop to make this simple adjustment. It was the EPA that forced manufacturers to seal these adjustments.

Echo SRM-230 trimmer stalls when you give it more gas. Can get more RPM with choke, but still not enough to use. Trimmer only has 20 hours on it.

empty the fuel tank and refill with the correct oil/ fuel mixture as too much oil blocks the jets Machines do not like any e- mix fuels as the jets are not set for the mix.

What type of fuel mixture do I use for 20760 Homelite gas trimmer?

Most likely not the answer you are looking for but here is a shot:

Pick up a bottle of the Echo brand 2-cycle oil. It will say "Extended Life" on the labeling. This is meant to run in Echo products, but it is a very FINE and well engineered oil. Mix it according to label directions for 50:1 ratios. (2.6 Oz. to 1 Gal. Gasoline)

When mixed at this ratio it provides MORE than adequate engine protection for ALL 2-Cycle engines, including those that run in 40, and 30:1 ratios.

I mix one 2-cycle tank to label instructions on the Echo oil for 50:1. It handily runs in my Echo chainsaws, non-echo trimmer, Poulan Pro leaf blower, etc. They all run different ratios, but THRIVE on the Echo mix without as much oily residue and smoke to boot!

CAUTION: I do not know of ANY OTHER MAKE of 2-cycle oil that CAN DO THIS *SAFELY*.

Remember:

Always mix your 2-cycle fuel starting with *fresh* gas.

Mix only that which you can use in 30 days.

Use 89 Octane fuel to make your mix in small piston 2-cycle engines.

Clean and re-oil intake filters @ every 10 hrs. operation time. Check and re-gap your plug when you service your filter!

DRAIN unused fuel from tank back into gas mix container. Restart and let engine idle to run any remaining fuel out of engine and carb. Storing fuel in ANY 2-cycle longer than two weeks is going to gum them up and nothing short of a carb rebuild will get them sputtering back to life again!
