How to fix fix my Hitachi Projection TV - model # 61WX01W, got darker and darker and now all dark. Has 3 pictures tubes. How do I fix the problem?

First if one was loose that color (red,green or blue) would be affected.

To look---guessing a older projection set and a model number would help-----the older ones front speaker grill comes off and an inspection plate behind it----necks of the 3 tubes will be pointed down with a board on each-----just look (do not touch) to see none are down or loose.

More commonly on some models they develop a problem where the filament voltage for the tubes is down and the picture gradually gets darker------have the lens(again a older set) been cleaned or not?

Remove rear cover with set unplugged and inspect the 3 large lens--if dusty clean with lens cloth---they are the light source and if dirty picture on these sets will be darker and dull looking

If the model number indicated here is correct that set uses 3 picture tubes.

No bulb used on that model.

If model number is correct let me know and I have a few suggestions.

If you are saying that the picture is getting darker and you have already tried to adjust the picture through the menu feature on your TV then it is more than likely the cooling fluid around the CRT tubes. Over time the fluid in these tubes gets cloudy and causes your TVs picture to become dull and distorts the color. You can google tv repair kits .com and I believe they will have a kit for your model.

you can fix this problem. remove your tv back cover, there is a part called Flyback. attaching to picture tube. it has two probs for adjesting focus and brightness.adjust your brightness porbe.

Unfortunately, without me seeing it I can't tell all what you will need to put it back into optimum performance. Older projection sets are pron-ed to having the coolant replaced for the 3 picture tubes. I don't know the quality of the tubes themselves, so it's really tough to make a call on your set. If it's just fluid, I would say you would invest $300.-400. in work. I don't believe it's worth putting that much into it if that's what it needs. Of coarse this is only if you have a projection set, you didn't state what model of set so I'm assuming it is one. Hope this helps......

Unfortunately it sounds like your CRT's ( picture tubes ) are getting weak. You have 3- red, green and blue. It would not be in your best interest to repair it because of the cost of the crt's and if we can still buy them. A lot of analog parts such as those are very hard to locate and is getting worse by the day.

Sound like you need clean fluid and some adjustments.

if the tv has never been service before you could have dust on the 3 tubes,this will decrease the brightness to the screen. try taking the front or back off & see if you can see the top of the picture tubes. remember to unplug the tv & to clean spray the cleaner on the colth , then clean the tup of the tube. never spary on the tube itself. hope this works for you.

The Picture tubes(not bulbs) do and probably are weak. There replace should only be done by a trained service person. One reason would be the hI Voltage issues related to the crt's, as these tubes store alot of HI voltage even after its unplugged for a while, and another reason would be that these tube can very easy implode then explode and that wouldnt be a pretty sight. Third would be the alighnment involved after all three tubes are replace. There ba cross hatch generator and alot of time involved with the alighnment. Please seek a pro to assit you when your ready to spend at least 900 TO 1000 bucks. Good Luck
