TV info is RCA model F36650, chassis ATC113CA1, manufactured April 2003 (copied directly off the white label on the back of the TV). We were watching tv and shut it off to eat lunch. After lunch we turned it back on and there was no picture, but the sound was fine. We thought maybe it was the satellite but still no picture when changing to antennae. Should we bother taking it to a repair shop or should be just buy a new television?

To your unit RCA F36650/CHASSIS # ATC113CA1, I posted replies to your original problem here. FBT would be the FlyBack Transformer or Line OutPut Transformer (LOPT).A ring test is check for the FBT out of circuit using an instrumentthat sends pulses to the FBT's primary circuit. Thereafter a comparatorcircuitry checks the number of damped oscillations or 'rings' producedand determines if the primary is good or not. Incidentally, it could also be the power supply unit (PSU). You could verify by doing the check on the HOT or lifting the supply to the main B+ going to the FBT and trying it. It the PSU powers up and the light lits as well as the sound comes up, the PSU is good and HOT/FBT is suspect. You might be better off getting hold of a service manual or at least a schematic diagram.
Incidentally, 13 years is a rather long time in electronics with the technology changing at such a fast pace. 13 years ago we still have a few Betamax and laserdisc players especially those by Pioneer.
most likely it is the flyback transformer. I have had meny RCA tv's with a bad Flyback and H.O.T transistor bad. Cost depends on the service center. Parts average around $60.00 dealer, so depending on mark up and shop labor it could vary greatly. If you have never changed these parts it is best to have a service man do it ... Take it to the shop and save the trip call charge $49.00 and up to $125.00..
It sounds like something in the set has failed. These newer TV's have shut down circuits that won't let the set come on if there is a short or excessive voltage somewhere in the set. Most failures in TV's occur at the moment the set is turned on.
Please provide accurate info for best solution = on back of set =

power led on front??...........................Help ! Let me know..T.
Apparently, a power supply weakness re-occurring........ Possible incomplete or incorrect repair the first time..... Have it diagnosed by a qualified RCA tech...... Always a possibility = IHVT = 257805 or asti 2078.......T.
