Question about Nikon COOLPIX S6 Digital Camera

8 Answers

Lens Error! We have a Nikon Coolpix S6. When attempting to turn on, the camera buzzes. Afterward, the screen shows what the lens is pointing at, but then it goes white and the words, "Lens Error" appears. I can't find the manual to pinpoint the problem. Also, when the camera is turned off, the lens cover stays open, and only goes back when the bateries are taken out and put back in. Please help quickly, this is a school camera, and it is needed for a large scale progect. (yearbook). We have a low budget for this, and would like a low cost answer, although any answer will do. Thank you EGHSYB

I know this is really late, but I've been having the same problem with the S6 on and off for the whole year, and I suspected a loose part. For a whole week, I couldn't turn on my camera, and the lens cap doesn't close until five minutes later. So I did what someone should really not do to a camera- I got my lens cloth and pushed on the lens directly as the stuttering noise occured. It works! The camera now turns on and off! Right now, it works okay for a while, but I suspect it might getting weird again, so I will try pushing it in harder next time and see if that will fix it for longer. other than than, make a better choice the next time you buy a camera! =\ I hope this will help others who have the same problem. Please email me at [email protected] for any other solutions and/or comments.

As a follow-up, my coolpix s6 died in 2008 =\ The screen started getting weird, then every other line on the lcd turned black, until finally the screen just stays black and I couldn't take pictures. I guess I should've listened to the advice of the salesperson when he said all the newer models were made in taiwan instead of *** so the quality wasn't as good.

Go with samuelkyl's solution on this page. I have a Coolpix S6 and sceptically tried samuelkyl's solution. I used a plastic pen cover to press on the lens. Low and behold it worked! Fantastic.

When I turn off my CoolPix S6 the lens would close completely. When I turn on my camera the lens is completely open and the screen just says lens cover error.

The lens is damaged and needs to be replaced. Sometimes with use or maybe an accidental hit to the lens can cause a malfunction to the camera resulting in that error. Also if you for example took the camera to the beach, getting something like sand in the camera can jam up the lens and prevent it from fully extending or retracting.

try these:-
  • connect it to pc and on it
  • vaccum the barrel of lens
  • changing mem. card and batt. for 2min.
  • shake it.
  • on and off in different positions
  • hit the part near lens softly with palm (trust me this made mine work)
