It's probably cap related... The +/- 30 or 12 volt lines feeding the tuner could be disrupted if a high esr cap is failing... ESR stand for equivilent series resistance and when a cap like that begins to fail it takes longer and longer to warm-up to its peak or in your case heats up beyond it's tolerance and fails to dissipate voltage at a correct rate affecting the circuit its in - in this case the tuner.
Not normally an expensive job but not one I'd want to do in-home. Good chance the tech will need to trace test the circuit with a scope anf ESR meter. Kinda like tearing an engine down to it's basic components if you know what I mean. You're better off taking the unit to them, saving the pickup delivery charges, and as always get an estimate in writing before any repairs are made over your okay amount...
Have a great day!

Unfortunately, JVC service manuals are not usually available outside of Authorized service centers. That being said, anyone that services TVs should have seen similar symptoms on other sets and should be able to "fix" this one even without a schematic. Call around. In the meantime, I'll look into this a bit more.
I have an older Mitsibutishi 52" HD 1080. I recently upgraded my cable box to DirecTV HDTV. When I change to format to view in 1080 the TV goes from full screen to what seems to be wide screen with a black bar on the top and bottom. If I change the format to 480p I get a full screen; but the picture has a "redish tint" over it as if looking through sunglasses...I tried everything in my TV manual even call the cable company. Any suggestions?
My Wesinghouse 27" lcd hdtv jumps and vertical hold is out of control after being on 15 mins. The cable company checked the connection and it is clean. We did not damage the tv. It has been doing this since we got it. We did not get a service contract. Sometimes the screen goes black with a small rolling picture on top. Help me please. Can the maufacter still help us?
we lost all the papers when we moved.
This is a CCD break down
Panasonic customer support is the place to go
If it is a recent purchase they will swap it
If it is older they may offer a discount on a replacement
