Question about Toshiba TP55H60 55" Rear Projection Television
For over two years the red colors would bend on the screen. When I shook the TV a bit, it would stop. Sometimes for just minutes, other times for weeks. Now when I turn the TV on, it comes on for about a half second and then turns off. Power light flashes. Based on what I've read, is it fair to assume one or both of the convergence modules is bad? I have no experience in repairing electronics, but after taking the back of the TV off and researching this part (stk392-110) I think I might be able to replace it myself for the under $10 they cost. Any idea on what a repair guy would charge to come to the house and do it? I'm definitely not hauling this thing in anywhere.

Scott H: Do you get this fix and how? My red line is off from the rest of the picture but the TV is still working. I took out the back panel and was not sure which circuit board to unplug to work on this STK part. Some boards have a double stack witjh one board on top of another board with a tall 4" standoff.

It costs me over $200 to repair that 6 years ago. On the 2nd time, I repaired it myself. Just follow the tips on this web
Three major tips:
1) Good part: Make sure you buy the parts from a reputated electronics shop and get the higher voltage rating version if possible. Change all 3 at the same time and they should cost around $20-$30 (a few years ago).
2) Good heat dissipation : Get good heatsink compound (very important) and spread the evenly. Does not need to be thick.
3) Airflow: Also make sure you are TV is not sitting on high pile carpet as this will reduce the airflow from the bottom of the TV. There are air vents on the bottom near the Convergence IC/big heatsink to cool them. I raised up my TV by an inch by sticking two long 1x2 wood along the side of the TV. You won't even see them where you seat.
Don't pay someone to repair it on this old TV. For $200, use it to buy a new TV that is quite reasonable price these days.
Good luck.

Oh beleive me you can buy STK convergence IC's for 5 bucks or 6 bucks, but they are called counterfit semiconductors and do not have the specs that the originals do, so you will most likly be in the same boat or worse off then you are now after replacement or a few months down the line. NEVER ever replace with a sub replacement, only use what the manufacturers say to replace them with. Just because they say the same numbers does not mean they are the same, cause they are not! Good Luck Please do not forget to rate this thread.

Cannot buy the stk,s for $10 if U can let me know where. It may look easy to replace but believe me they are not. they will cost at least $70.00 each and labour differes with the repair place U could be looking at at least $300.00. Again if you can buy new stk's for 10.00 let me know where!
