Intermittent problem starting 2002 volvo s60.

Battery is fine, replaced alternator 8 months ago. While battery easily runs down if radio is on for a few minutes without engine on, or if dome light is left on overnight, the most common occurrance seems to be random - when turning key, i still have juice from the battery (lights work, radio station still set), but just a fast clicking when turning the key. A jump start starts it up every time... It will be fine for a couple of weeks, even months, then I'll have a day when I have to get jump started three times.

The symtoms you describe sounds like a battery fault. but if you have had the battery properley tested and is good then you either have something discharging the battery intermittantly ie. trunk light staying on or a high resistance in the main battery leads or earth connections

SOURCE: Volvo S70 won't start - battery, generator, or other

usually multiple clicking (like a machine gun) does indicate lw battery voltage. did you get 11.9 volts with it running or car off? with running you should be over 13.6 min up to 14.0 volts. these cars have a fair amount of electronics with some residual voltage draws which may shorten battery life. 4 yrs is not too bad. i would consider replacing battery

you need to replace the Park Neutral Safety Sensor on the bottom of the Transmission. Should only be a $125.00 part. Your battery and starter are fine. Replace it and iy will be fixed.

My Volvo s60 battery died jumped got it started let it run 10 mind tried again now nothing

Sounds like 2 possibilities, A) your alternator is not charging the battery or B) your battery is pooched.

To check your alternator, 1) without the engine running apply a volt meter to your battery, it should read somewhere around 12 volts. 2) boost the car, and with the engine running test your battery again, it should read approx. 14-15 volts.

If it reads 15 volts, your alternator is fine, and your battery is suspect, if it only reads 12 volts when running, then your alternator needs to be replaced.

Resetting computer on volvo s60 2002 after battery replacement

I had this problem on my 02 s60 after messing with the battery. The problem is that the computer is stupid and "forgets" how to manage the car if it completely loses power.

To retrain it you basically just drive the car. I've seen several sets of instructions but here's what works for me:

1. Start the car and let it idle until warmed up.
2. Using moderate throttle (don't floor it) get the car up to highway speeds.
3. Slow down to a complete stop.
4. Repeat 2-3 a few times if you're so inclined.
5. Done!

Skipping the highway part will work too, however, I've heard it can take much longer to retrain the computer (weeks to months depending on driving habits.)

Replaced battery volvo s60

start checking fusible link wire on secondary positive line from the battery terminal(or follow the positive to the terminal block on the firewall) and check/replace the secondary fusible link(usually about 6-8 inches long designed to burn in two if a short exists.)then go into fuses on the car and replace all that tests bad..good luck

My Volvo s60 2002 model emits a lot of whitish smoke from exhaust, yet the engine runs quite well at normal temperature. It is turbocharged by the way. Whenever i replace battery, say when battery is...

White smoke is usually steam. Check your oil? Milkey color? Yes = blown head gasket or other waaer/oil mix trouble. Dont wait to see what happens.

Thanks for your question.

My car runs great with absolutely no problems when i keep the zccelerator on, but when i slow down to a stop, the rpm drops to about 500, sometimes konking out, other times it will slowly creep back up to...

The idle air control valve is what regulates incoming air when the engine is idling. In some cases these can malfunction and cause intermittent issues with stalling at idel until the IAC dies altogether.

Original battery 600 cca tested showes 580 amps

i had the same problem it turned out the battery just needed replacing if its not that then the next thing to check is your battery cables and see if there is alot of corrosion on them that can also factor in. the last thing id suggest checking is your battery terminals. hope this helps

Low battery voltage light battery won't hold charge 2002 S60

Yup, time for a new alternator. Most models have the regulator built into the alternator, so it makes it a little bit more expensive - but it will resolve your problems. If you are driving at night with a load on your charging system (lights and radio on), you will probably notice you have dim headlights. If you don't change it soon, you'll end up having to replace your battery too.
