Hi, I'm hoping for some help!! I was given this tv, I think it's a 98? It's a sony trinitron XBR. It's in a huge cabinet, I can't take it to the repair shop. I'm pretty handy if I have good direction. The picture has an hour glass shape. Needless to say, all the women look great. Can I get some help and some very specific direction? Thanks

Did you correctly select the S-Video input on the TV via the remote? In other words, if the TV is not set to look at the S-Video input then nothing will happen. You have either an "input", "source" or tv/vcr button that will allow you to select what input the tv will look at for a signal. Make sure it's set to S-Video.

A common fault are some of the electrolytic capacitors failing in the pin cushoning amp section, and probably in part of the scan amplifiers.
To service this will require the proper training and set-up to troubleshoot the set.
Take the set to a service center for an estimate. The cost can be at least an hour or two for the labour, and then the cost of the parts on top.

Look for the service manual, it contains the explanation of the flashing light codes, it will tell you what part is faulty.
