SOURCE: Just got Windows 7 and trying to install
Windows 7 has a compatibility wizard that you can use to help install it. Go to start, control panel, and then type in troubleshooter in the search box. Under programs, click "run programs for other versions of windows." Follow those instructions. If you need to browse to the setup file on the disc, do so. If that does not work, you can go to Broderbund's web site. They have a compatibility update for Gold 17 on their website. Unfortunately it is for Vista, but it still might help you with the compatibility issue

SOURCE: I WOULD LIKE TO CONVERT
If I was in your place I would use a direct connection if both computer's are connected to the internet ...and in the same default gateway ..its easy ..cause you can find the other computer into my network places folder..after you select the view workgroup computers task ...You will have to disable the firewall in both machines and after that you will have access on the other computer just like in my computer folder..and copy files...
If they are not on the same workgroup...than you can use a remote control program to transfer the files directly ..THis one will do the job ..,all you have to do is to install it on both machines ..open in the remote one ..and in yours..and get the ed and password offered by the program and connect to it ..after that you basically have ful access to it ..even tranfer files..
here is the program :http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx
If the machines are not connected to the internet than the only way is to use a large memory stick or an external hard drive ...or just get the hard drive from the one you need the files and connect it temporary to the other one ..and you will find its partition in My computer ..after that just copy paste the files in the other partition from the computer you intend to use..
