One is to replace the whole motherboard but that would probably also entail new ram, cpu, cooler, graphics card, even maybe a new PSU.
Two is to fit a pci usb 2.0 card.
You said you did TWO but it didnt work. I am not sure why without more details but if you are using windoes 95 or less than that would be a major problem.
Only the later windows 98 and above can really make full use of USB 2.0 and even with 98 and win ME you would need to make sure he correct drivers were installed too.
It is either a PS/2 or USB port. PS/2 are absent on most laptops nowadays, I can not think of another reason. If you have a snanding tower, the port is usually just below the power cable, green or marked somehow, left to mouse is for the keyboard (violet). For desktop boxes ports are the same, just on another location. When plugging, do not use excessive force, plug has a central pin, so it will fit in just one position. If it is a USB port and your desktop PC is old, get a PCI to USB extension card, however this will be more expensive than the mouse.
