My machine has a faulty on/off button. Currently I can't switch it off, which is a problem as it's full of washing. I can't therefore open the door. I suspect a problem with the button mechanism. Anybody got any ideas on how I can open the washer to release the button and get my washing out.

Re: faulty on off button
The only way you can open the door is by switching off the washer open the lid feel down the front off the inside of the washer to were your door catch goes to you will find a catch you can release to open the door

If your Kenmore 500 washing machine is filling with water but the water won't shut off, it could be caused by a few different issues. Here are a few things to check:
Water inlet valve: The water inlet valve is responsible for controlling the flow of water into the washing machine. If the valve is faulty or stuck open, it may cause the water to continue flowing even after the machine is full.
Water level switch: The water level switch is responsible for detecting the level of water in the machine and shutting off the water when the machine is full. If the switch is faulty or not functioning properly, it may cause the water to continue flowing.
Wiring issue: There may be a problem with the wiring or the electrical system that is causing the water inlet valve or the water level switch to malfunction.
To determine the cause of the problem, it is recommended to bring your washing machine to a professional appliance repair service for further diagnosis and repair. They will be able to test the water inlet valve, water level switch, and other components to identify the source of the issue and recommend the appropriate repairs.
The method we use on our LG WF 8071TTP top-loader:
Load stuff to be soaked.
Add soap.
Set load size and water inlets.
Start wash cycle.
Wait until water is full, and begins washing.
Press Start/Pause button.
Press Auto Stop button to switch machine off.
Next morning:
Press Auto Stop button to switch machine on.
Press Start/Pause button.
The fuzzy logic (if machine has this) will register that machine is full, and washing will continue.
When the machine is full, the built in sensor triggers a switch to let the machine know there are clothes inside. Check the sensors and/or switch, as they may be faulty.
Door not shut Check that the door is properly shut.Faulty interlock A faulty interlock might not allow the door to shut properly. Find your door interlock here and replace, or contact a qualified repairer. No power Check the flex, plug wiring, fuse and mains supply for faults. Faulty on/off switch Check the power light if fitted. Replace your on/off switch. Water supply disconnected or off If a washer dryer cannot load water it cannot start a wash cycle. Check water supply.
