My Hotpoint side by side fridge's water dispenser keeps on running every few minutes and flooded my kitchen. The nightlight also turns on when wafer is on. I switched to ice and ice will come out every few minutes. I unplugged the fridge for few minutes hoping it will reset the circuit. It did not and water/ice continues to dispense every few minutes. Any suggestions?

Re: water dispenser keeps running
Allen, one of two things here. The dispenser target switch has gone bad or the actuator arm is not releasing the switch. Remove the front cover by using a small screw driver to unlock the tabs at the bottom. Slide the panel down and out. Disconnect the wire harness. Remove the 4 phillip screws in the door dispenser housing. Slide the housing out and disconnect the target switch and light connectors. Now you can spread out the locking tabs and examine the switch. If this all checks good, then the board is the problem...Catriver...post back.

Some fridges have a safety feature built in, which turns off water if the water valve was open for a certain number of seconds, to avoid flooding. So if you need a lot of water, make sure to release water dispenser lever for a second or two every minute.
If the above is not the case, you may need to replace the water valve or a switch on the water dispenser. The way to find out which part needs replacement is to check the voltage on the green water valve coil when the dispenser lever is pressed but it's not dispensing water. If 110v AC is present across the coil - replace valve. If there's no 100v AC - replace switch in the dispenser. Make sure to unplug the fridge before opening the dispenser.
Set up a shop light, one of those Halogen type lights. And have it shining right on it at the highest setting. The water in the line has frozen. After about 30 minutes to an hour it should start working again. You could also use a blow dryer but I'd rather not stand in front of the fridge that long. Remember if you got kids in the house to warn them not to touch the light!
check the door in the dispenser if moisture is condensing and freezing so that the door won't open try manually popping the door open just before you attempt to dispense ice, maybe you'll get lucky, otherwise your going to have to get a technician to come and check the micro-switch for the dispenser
Dispenser leaking----Probably replace the water inlet valve on the back where the water
supply comes in. Disconnect the water line to the dispenser there and see if it
keeps dripping when you try the dispenser
Either the water valve has stuck open or the IM water switch is stuck. Unplug the wires from the water valve and see if the water has stopped. If yes it is the switch, if still running in the it is the valve. Eric
check freezer for frost build up and if fan blowing, check condenser make sure clean, and fan blowing,
check vents in refrig. make sure no blockage, freezer control should be in the middle setting,
you can try turning that to Warmer freezer allowing MORE air to refrigertor side.
