Question about Canon PowerShot S1 IS Digital Camera
My camera is a Canon S1 IS. My camera is less than a year old and I have taken proper care of it. It has never been dropped or get wet. It does'nt have a scratch. Sometimes on Camera mode all I get is a lot of blue and purple stripes... This has happened three times in a couple of weeks when I turn the camera on. Two of the three times this has happened I was in very hot weather... after a while the problem goes away. Right now the camera is working just fine, but I am afraid that this symptom means that it is definitely going to break down in the future. Speaking to a technician he told me that it is probably the "optical unit", that is the CCD, which is the "brain" of the camera. This is a very expensive part and changing it means paying probably the price of a new camera. Nevertheless, I don't trust these guys too much... it's their business finding something wrong with things. The more expensive, the better. What I really want to know is, if this could be a temporary normal condition that could happen in very cold or hot weather due to condensation or something like that... or if it definitely means that there is something wrong with the camera.
This is a defective CCD known to Canon. They will replace it at no charge ! Go here for details: http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html

I have the same problem. Purple disstortions and lines in the pictures. The camera still can view old pitcures through. Canon is sending shipping labels to me to print out. They said if the problem was caused by something else they will diagnose and tell me what the problem is and price.
