DX1900 I am currently having problems with the iron not heating up properly and the red light is currently flashing throught the period that it is on. The steam is not currently working as well. I believe that it might be clogged. If you believe that this is so, could you please let me know some possible ways that it can be cleaned. I appreciate your time. I lost the manual. Many thanks Brandy

i have the same problem.  it starts blinking the auto-stop light and it just shuts off during my use.  i constantly have to pull the cord out to reset the iron after ironing for 3-10 seconds.  on top of this problem, the frontal piece where you add water falls off!
since it works great for that 3-10 seconds, i hate to give it up.  please let me know whether it's worth keeping or if i should get rid of it.
    thanks,

Similar problem with the 1900,it shuts off and starts flashing which it's supposed to do when the auto shut off is activated but not so soon after heating up. I wrote to Rowena and are currently waiting for an answer, but I don't expect much. The web-site's only solution was to shake the iron sideways a couple times to reset thermostat, but it didn't work on ours. We have to unplug and plug back in to get another 30 secs. of heat. If they offer any help, I'll write back with a solution, other than sending it across country to their service center. Feel free to write their website www.rowena.com

I think all these are of a similar cause, whatever that is. Mine just sits there flashing yellow but never heats up. Considering what these irons cost they shouldn't be having problems like this nor should it be such a pain to try to get them fixed.

Ditto with the flashing light...I think there's a pendulum type switch that must be hung up...how do we access that switch to free it?

Same issue with auto shutoff...begins flashing when plugged in. Reinserting power plug in wall socket a few times gives me a few minutes of ironing. Would love to know the solution. Otherwise, it has been a wonderful appliance.

I have the same issue. Plugging in to wall outlet repeatedly provides a few seconds of ironing. Otherwise, this has been a wonderful appliance.

SOURCE: What happens if I use CLR in my steam iron?

The steam tank may not be heating because of mineral deposits in the tank. But also do this check first. Open up the tank reservoir cold, and drain all water out, (is it clean inside there when you shine flashlight in there? Rinse with clear filtered water only (low minerals).

Do not use CLR or anything agressive in there. You should have the main unit in full steam mode and the iron control also in full steam mode. Leave one tablespoon of water in the tank, put back together and let the pressure build. Put a clean towel on your ironing board and when iron is at full pressure and heat, hit the burst of steam and look at what comes out of the sole plate. If you see lots of white deposits look at the sole plate and see if the white chunks are coming out steam holes.

When using iron, run it till steam/water tanks are dry, the burst of steam is used in this case to clean the iron of all standing water. Pull the reservoir and allow to cool...once tank is cool drain it as well. Doing this several times should help purge unit of the heavy mineral deposits.

Does red light suppose to flash

follow this section troubleshooting and fix it. God bless you
Clean an iron:
  1. Unplug the iron and make sure it is cool before cleaning.
  2. Use a toothpick or pipe cleaner to remove buildup in the steam vents, making sure the debris doesn't fall into the vents.
  3. Use a fine sewing needle to carefully clean the spray nozzle of mineral deposits.
  4. To flush sediment from a steam iron, pour 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup vinegar into the water tank. Place the iron on a rack over a broiling pan and set the iron to steam until the tank runs dry. Repeat if necessary. Or follow the instructions for using a commercial iron cleaner.
Service the steam and spray mechanism:
  1. Unplug the iron.
  2. Use a fine sewing needle to unclog the steam valve assembly. Also, check the valve spring and replace it if it is broken or has lost tension.
  3. If the spray pump is accessible, remove it and check for leaks by placing the spray tube in water and squirting the pump. Clean or replace as needed.

Red light keeps blinking and iron shuts off

Sounds as if the cable may be damaged or a loose connection. May be cheaper to buy a new one from wallmart or similar store.

Turns on, flashes yellow but never heats up

This is a problem with a lot of Rowenta irons. It is the auto shut off that is not working properly and the only way to fix it is to have it disassembled and the switch hardwired to be on whenever the iron it plugged in. It is a thermal metal switch and it just stops working and then the iron will not turn on and the yellow light blinks.
