Install Apple StyleWriter 1200 InkJet Printer on windows xp

Lexmark has discontinued this printer and last Operating system supported was xp. I have found site that says that they have windows 7 drivers but have never used this site before. i would scan all the files for possible viruses just in case.

Now on contrary this Microsoft site says that windows 7 does not need drivers installed form a CD because it will automatically install what it needs. You might have to reboot after plugging in usb. I"t says it is same for 32 bit and 64 bit version.

Just a printer but could be used as a fax printer if combined with the fax software of Windows XP or winfax for Mac.


The Color StyleWriter 2500 is a color inkjet printer manufactured and sold by Apple in 1996. It was based on a Canon-developed Bubble Jet printer, but was repackaged with a new housing, firmware, and Apple's proprietary 8-pin mini-DIN serial port. The printer is similar in appearance and functionality to the StyleWriter 2400, but featured faster printing speeds: 5 PPM black, 0.66 color, vs the 2400's 3 PPM black, 0.3 color. As with the 2400, the 2500 was compatible with the Apple Pippin console gaming system. Apple offered LocalTalk and EtherTalk networking upgrades in the form of external print server devices. Also offered was a "PhotoGrade" kit, which included a special monobloc (heads and ink in one unit) cartridge with lighter photo-oriented inks and coated paper.

The driver for this printer comes with Windows 7. Use the "Add a Printer" wizard from Win 7 to install. After that, it should print fine.

you might have to install drivers for vista,do look for them on the printer website.

This driver is provided by Microsoft and is included with the Windows XP os.

Installation instructions:
1: Click START, then click on PRINTERS & FAXES
2: Click on ADD A PRINTER
3: At Welcome screen click NEXT
4: Select LOCAL PRINTER (if printer is attached directly to computer) and click NEXT
5: Choose LPT1 (in most situations) or a different port if not LPT1 then click NEXT
6: Select Apollo in left window
7: Select Apollo P-1200 in right window
8: Click NEXT
9: Type name for printer or accept default name
10: Click No to "Do you want to print test page".
11: Click FINISH
12: Test printer by sending a print job to printer.

If you experience problems after installing this driver, please consultthe printer user manual for proper lpt bios settings. eg: spp, ecp,etc. and change the lpt pc bios settings to match manufacturer'ssuggested settings. HI there have you tried a new data cable? Also check that the cartridge is inserted correctly and it is an original.

windows xp home edition has problems running a lexmark, the xp pro dont its a windows problem do you have xp if so when it says needs install dont use the disk let the set up wizard take you to a site to down load the drivers i had to do the same with my X1150 all in one.
