I looked it up in the manual and it says that the copier is locked. Actually its a 1645CS. I unlocked it, turned it off and back on again but I still get the same error. The copier barely starts up and quickly locks up.

The only things that can cause a scanner error on this unit is a complete scanner harware failure or the scanner lock. With the unit on lock the transport lock and unlock it a few times quite forcibly. Then leave it in the unlocked position and power off and on again. If the light returns then at his point I think a new printer will be needed.
The problem on your machine is on the fusing unit, the temperature in the fusing unit is low to start the machine. To cancel the trouble status follow these steps: Press CONTINOUSLY the following:
STEP1. Press CLEAR key then EXPOSURE key then CLEAR key then EXPOSURE key
STEP2. Then you are inside the simulation if the display turns OFF if not do again step 1 until the display turns off.
STEP3.press 14 then press print button
The machine will now cancel the trouble status and ready to used. If not cancelled and again H4 exist it means that there is a part inside the fusing unit that is busted like the thermostat. With this you should now contact your authorized serviceman to check your machine .
you need to spend some time triing the best you can to get the top of the door panel open a bit to see what is broken inside, most likely a clip. The other thing to try is a slim jim to get the door open then repair the door lock.
Hi do you have a scanner transportation lock? on the unit where you actually place the document or on the glass area on the very right hand or left hand side do you have a switch that has a scanner logo or picture? showing lock and unlock pad? position it to unlock pad after turning it off, just toggle it 3-5x then position it on unlock position then turn it back on and try copying again.
Try flicking the transportation lock (on the left side under the scan
lid) on and off. It has a picture of a pad lock shown locked and
unlocked. Flip it back and forth and leave it in the unlocked position.
I had the same problem and the solution is this: There is a red lever switch by the power chord on the scanner/printer. Above this red lever switch is the drawing of a lock in the "locked" position and at the bottom this red lever switch is the drawing of a lock in the "opened (unlock)" position. The lever on the red switch should point to the "opened" lock symbol (unlock). It the switch lever is pointing to the "locked" position of the lock symbol, flip it to the "opened" position and recycle power on the scanner by removing the power chord for a 30 seconds. If the lever is pointing to the "unlock" lock symbol, flip it to the "locked" position and then back to the "unlocked" position and recycle power. Good luck!
