Older projection set:

Not knowing exactly what it looks like I suggest two things: first in the menu look for convergence to see if it is off adjustment wise--it can be adjusted in customer mode to see if that helps.

Also either turn color all the way off (Black and white) to see what color the screen is with no color--if somewhat red you will need to turn the red screen control down--I can tell you where and how.

If screen is too red, red will be the prominent background color with color off or on.

Another easy way to LOOK is go to an unused video input---should only see "Input 1" for example in green and rest of screen should be black and not red to any degree.

Let me know with a comment here what you find.

Remove the back hardboard cover by removing all the screws and lifting the cover up and toward you.

Mirror will be above but usually doesnt get dusty. Try not to touch it if you can. Same with back of screen. If you have a spider web just use a soft dry cloth to wipe it away.

You will likely find the upward facing lamp lenses covered in dust. Clean these with a soft cloth moistened with glasses cleaning solution. Glass cleaner works too.

I have a sony projection tv. Colors/piture not right

Replace convergence ICs and a 5 amp pico fuse on power supply. ICs are part number STK392-560.

Just be sure to use thermal paste on the ICs or they will self destruct in a short amount of time.

Sony tv KP-61HS10 lenses wont align

This is common in those sets. One of your convergence IC's has stopped working and needs to be replaced. The convergence IC should be replaced and the convergence circuits realigned by someone with experience in Sony projection sets.

Sony KP 53S65 53" rear projection TV contrast issue

While the root of the problem is likely the picture tubes aging, I'm sure it would benefit from a cleaning and adjusting. After the dust is cleaned from the lenses, the screen controls could likely be lowered to get the blacks you desire. An experienced tech would be able to do this for you.
