Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

SOURCE: acer aspire 3680 svideo in black and white?

Hi,
Have you checked The Settings in The Bios.
Your laptop May be set As NTSC Or PAL, displaying on A Different format tv set ?
Try An external Monitor, Or the TV Out if applicable.
If these work in Colour rather than monochrome ( Black And White ) then the fault lies with your svga output on the laptop.

SOURCE: acer laptop has developed a fully dark screen

I am assuming that you have tried switching from external monitor output and local monitor. There should be a hot key on the keyboard to switch it. Also, try looking to make sure the driver for the display is up to date. I f it was update recently try rolling the driver back. If you need help with doing any of this post a comment. Hope this has helped some.

SOURCE: ACER ASPIRE 5610z BLACK SCREEN

FIX:

I have an acer aspire 5520G and i can relate all too well. It worked fine for about 3weeks (from brand new!!) then one day the screen went blank while trying to boot. I managed to fix it and it worked fine for almost 2years, untill i went to sell it and encoutered the problem again.

The Fix: this is the fix that worked for me; firstly the problem; this seems to be a big problem with acers for some reason, and there are a few variations or confusions about it when people describe their fault. My fault is that when my laptop is off, i press the power button and the green light comes on, a fan starts up and there is hope, but then the fan changes speed slightly and it stays like that indefinatley, without the screen having ever come on, and i mean the computer is virtually dead except the power light and fan, you cannot press ctrl-alt-del or see the screen from an angle or with a torch. the only thing you can do is hold the power button and force a shutdown, so some deep seeded hardware is still working, but it seems the display never starts and the BIOS never loads.

My first fix - i managed to start my computer by pressing the power button, then as fast as i can (hold function button) repeatadly press F5 and F6 ie. with the function button held you are pressing [Black out screen/Restore Screen] and [Switch Monitors]. this usually starts my laptop on the first or second attempt. The first time i did this i was playing around with external monitor cables and connections, and switching monitors and the problem spontaneously fixed itself as mysteriously as it had arrived.

Second time was extremely frustrating, i could still load my computer by pressing F5 and F6 combos but could not get it to become self sufficent. I upgraded my BIOS with the Flash Updater from acer (i found it on the net) and after the second boot attempt, windows vista installed some memory drivers, and the problem was resolved.

if this hadnt worked i would have tried the memory battery fix as above, as my problem definatly seemed bios related.

Hope this helps someone from loosing their hair.

Aspire One PC Notebook: My acer one aspire turns on but screen stays black...

Try this for the black screen of death problem...

Here’s what you need:
  1. USB Memory stick (as low as 128mb)
  2. Another PC with a net connection
  3. WinZip, WinRAR, or some other program that can extract zip files.
  4. A quick visit towww.acer.com
  5. Your Acer Aspire One, that will power up/turn on, but the screen does not come on.
And here’s what you do:
  1. Go to www.acer.com and go through the DRIVER support pages until you get the Aspire One driver page for your relevant Aspire One model (110/150/751)
  2. Click on the tab on the download area that reads ‘BIOS’ even if it looks like you can’t click on it (their site design grays it out but it’s there) and download the BIOS file numbered 3310 (it might have changed version recently but do it) and don’t worry, you can trust this file, as it’s from Acer directly.
  3. Extract the zip once downloaded and find in the DOS folder the files ‘flashit.exe’ and 3310.fd
  4. When you’s ve found them, rename 3310.fd to ZG5IA32.fd and put this renamed file and ‘flashit.exe’ onto the USB memory stick
  5. Put the USB in the Aspire One and hold the keys ‘FN’ (function) and ‘Esc’ (escape) and keep them held when you turn the laptop on
  6. Watch the power button and when it starts flashing, press it once (DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE)
  7. You should notice the USB (if it has a light) blinking as well… The netbook has started ‘flashing’ the BIOS and after about 7 minutes, the netbook should shutdown and reboot itself and VOILA! The screen should turn on just fine.
It took my three times but this IS the proper solution! I am now very happy with my Aspire One that still works!

Baclight only stays on for a few seconds on my

You might want to give this a try. Start Menu - Choose Control Panel. Then choose Power Options. You should have several options depending on performance or saving power. Choose Change Plan Settings, and adjust the display brightness to suit your needs.

Hope this helps.

Acer Aspire 5100 laptop's screen remains black at start-up

This is probably a hardware issue with the monitor. Just to make sure, uninstall, and reinstall the monitor's driver. If that doesn't fix it, it's a hardware issue.

You will have to either take it to a shop, or contact the manufacturer (your computer should be under warranty if you've had it for less than a year).

Acer Aspire 3620 Screen

Check Acer's website for a BIOS update. I've seen a LOT of laptop's screen issues been related to the power saving settings in the BIOS. Sometimes screens going black very fast and not working properly can be caused by that.

The Power Inverter could also be the problem which you wouldn't be able to repair yourself. If you purchased it at Best Buy you can take it to them and they could get that fixed for you (at a charge if there is no warranty with that).
