Look into the little jumpers on the back.
If its SATA its np But if its IDE you need to set the jumper to master or slave or cable sellect.

SOURCE: I have a Asus computer and my cd/dvd rw stop working. I can't watch dvd's or listen to any cd's I need to know what's up with my cd/dvd multi-recorder

First try a system restore back to the last date which you remember that it worked. If that doesnt help, you must find out what cd/dvd burning software is in your computer. It may have been corrupted. Oddly enough, you don't need drivers for the CD/DVD drives. They aren't even recognized unless you have a good non-microsoft burning program. Find out what burning software you have--download Belarc Advisor, a free program (Google it) which not only tells you everything in your computer, with model and serial numbers for hardware and all of your software (with their unique codes), but will also inform you if you are missing any needed Windows updates. Once you know what you have, if it came with the computer, you have to seek an upgrade at the computer manufacturer's website, as it may be a special program not related to the burning software purchased from the software manufacturer---go to their website for upgrades.

SOURCE: My ASUS DVD/CD ROM SAYS, THE DRIVER WAS INSTALLED

Un-plug your device.
Check your device manager for flags or other devices.
After all is OK, re-boot machine, plug-in device and it should install drivers.
If you do not have a conflicts or un-known devices, it should load with no problems.
If it does not, it may be bad, try it on another unit.

SOURCE: I have an Asus DRW-2014L1T that will no longer

Try installing the drivers from Asus for your EXACT model of computer. Many of Microsoft's drivers are generic in nature and do not take advantage of the hardware installed by manufacturers because they can't always "talk" to their hardware.

Go to Asus's web site, type in your model number under the "Download Drivers" section and it will take you to a page where you can find the specific driver for your drive and hopefully get it back to seeing both CDs and DVDs.

DVD drive Read problem in my Dell Dimension 3000

Make sure you have any and all Windows 7 updates from Microsoft, along with any updates for your DVD drive for use with Windows 7. Some components work fine using Vista SP2 drivers, but some will need an update to work with Windows 7.

This Microsoft site might help verify if your DVD drive is compatible with Windows 7:

I just installed an LG 22x Internal Super writer DVD and my computer is not recognizing it. I have a jumper connecting the other drive. It is not picking up either one. Both open but nothing else. The...

I suppose your's is a SATA drive. Disconnect all the sata cables except for the Hard Disk and that of the Writer in question. Boot up and check if the drives works. If not take pains and try installing the drive in another PC (one of your friends'). If it still has the same problem check with where you bought it.
