Re:
I would recommend wiping your player - (if this doesn't work then it is probably the tracks/audio you are playing and not the player):
Windows only.... Please post if you are not using windows...
Open My Computer with your Rio plugged in. Right click on your Rio carbon and click on format. Leave the default values - if it asks you something then use your initiative. Then click on format. Then
when it has finished formatting go to your firmware (can be downloaded
from:
http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/support/rio/product.asp?prodID=235). Follow the instructions and then it should load the firmware onto your player. When it has done then your player should (in theory!) work properly.

desetas2415 im thinking if your using itunes and rely on syncing your mp3 you should not need plugins if you have any problems with itunes try an application called rythmbox or there is also one called banshee media player see if that helps
Everybody says that this does not work but it definitely does!
My
Rio got dropped and I completely buggered the hard drive so after
reading many forums saying that it didn't work I read one that said
that someone had told them that sandisk ultra II ones worked (very
vague!)
Because I had nothing to lose I went out and bought a
1GB sandisk Ultra II CF card. I then took apart my rio and replaced the
hard drive with the CF card. Still not thinking it was going to work I
plugged it into my computer and installed the latest firmware (from the
rio website) and then HEY PRESTO!!!!!! it works.
I have yet to try an 8GB ultra II card but when I do i will keep you posted.
If you don't believe me then I don't blame you but If you send me a request then I can send you pictures and more details...
I used an earring to press the reset button, and I turned the player on as I let go of the button. It seems to be the solution for many problems with the Rio CE2100 so I'd say it's worth a try. And if you're looking for help on the Rio website, it is there, it's just really hard to find.

Hi.
I recommend a firmware upgrade. You can obtain this by doing the following:
1) Connect the player to your computer with the USB cable.
2) Wait for "idle" to be displayed on the player screen.
3) Double-click the file that you downloaded from the Rio website.
The update should take approximately 30 seconds to load.
and here is the link for your firmware upgrade file.

Good Luck
I would suggest going to the rio site, http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/support/rio/product.asp?prodID=235. Downloading the latest version of the rio music manager. See if,once the manager is loaded, you can access your music.
What OS did you load?
Are you using MS indexer or Google?
I think when you hit the on/off power button (on top near outlet for headphones) AND hit the menu button (on side below volume dial) at same time...it puts the Rio CE2100 into "Upgrader" mode aka "Recovery" mode.
From what I've found online, basically, the firmware to the device is deleted. Trying to reinstall firmware, or reflash the device is nearly impossible. The tiny hole near the earphones is for resetting the device--use a needle (about the only thing that will fit-ouch)...but that only lets you turn it on/off if u get stuck. The tiny hole on face near display is where audio recording mic WOULD be if Rio CE2100 had one.
If ANYONE knows how to escape "Recovery mode" or "Upgrader" mode please share. This is a common final result for many owners of this otherwise great mp3 player.
There is some notation in online help site that says ce2100 requires 500mA from USB and says u can go to Device manager, check ur USB Root Hub, check Power tab to see how much power is being supplied to the device. Mine said 100mA, and doesn't work...but I don't know how to resolve this. =) Maybe tomorrow...or just wait for sales post-christmas. =)
