Re: TV picture problems
This modle has a bad solder connection near the horizontal o/p transistor that causes the picture to fade in & out.the bad solder connection is on a small coil. the coil winding is typically red. looking at the back of the tv, the flyback has the rid wire going to the top of the tube, the horizontal o/p transistor is to the left & in font of the flyback, it's attached to an aluminum heatsink. directly in font of this heatsink is the coiul you are looking for, it should have a location id of L14XXX or L4XXX if I remember corectly.
good luck.

Check the info from this website to see if you are able to fix your TV. You should turn the blue screen control down slightly counterclockwise. If that did not work, then more likely you have a video amplifier IC defective or a blue CRT.
Its magnetic effect on picture tube. Power Off TV for 20-30 minutes then turn it On, hope problem will be resolved. Please also check and remove any speaker or some thing have magnet near by TV. If color spots are still there, picture tube need to degaussed / demagnetized.
problem is caused by the loss of horizontal deflection signal. It is quite surprising that the entire unit is still working, since usually, a loss of H-Out will disable the entire set. Problem can be as simple as loose solder connection to a more complicated defective horizontal circuit. I would suggest havint it checked by a professional TV tech.
you are experiencing one or more of three things
1.the crt itself is damaged
2. the vertical ic on blue crt board is bad
3. the focus block is bad
if you hire a sony authorized technician they should be well aware of this problem.
The only thing I can think of that would make the picture fade to black is a loose solder joint on the filament supply. Each of the 3 picture tubes has a filament and if the 6.3 volt supply to those filaments is suddenly lost, the picture fades to black as the filaments cool down. An experienced tech can find and correct this for you quite easily.
