Black printer ink in HP Photosmart may fail to be recognized by the printer. Most times an error message will be sent indicating that something is wrong with the black print cartridge. Sometimes the printer may accept to print with the black ink, but the printouts may have horizontal lines and very illegible letters. In such a case a manual cleaning of the print head should be carried out. In doing the manual cleaning, one should spray Windex heavily on paper towel and wipe off the surface of the print head.
There are 9 different HP Photosmart C4400 All-In-One devices. The Windows 7 driver is available on HP website [www.hp.com]. Select "Software & Driver Downloads". If you are running Windows 7 you will need to select either the 32bit or 64bit driver. If you are still having problems, write back. -- SWT
I had same problem with hp psc 2410 all-in-one. Finally ran "HP all-in-one Series Web Release Uninstaller version: 4.1.1.00.1332 (3/20/2007) that I had downloaded several years ago. Then plug and play took over and installed the correct driver that Vista kept insisting I already had.
The program has a ClipArt component that is show on the right part of the screen. Removing that part of the software application will enable the printer, computer and internet to run.

I checked your manual and it doesn't have envelopes listed as one of the types of paper you can print to. See page 17. Sorry. Hope this clears things up . If so, please help me out by rating the solution.
